Departmental Announcements

Econ Help Room Moves Virtual  

The Econ Help Room (Heady 178/180) is moving to a virtual format for the remainder of the Fall 2020 semester. Students will be able to connect via WebEx with a graduate student for assistance during the normal operating hours (M-F 10am-4pm). Find more info here.

Call for Submissions

2020 Reimagine Challenge 
 

The University is seeking student submissions for the Google Reimagine Challenge focusing on civic innovation. Students at all levels are encouraged to submit proposals and/or writing for the topics of Sparking a Global Movement (proposal) and Community Impact from COVID (essay). Up to 20 student winners will receive a $25,000 scholarship and an anthology publication.  More information is shared here. Note: the application deadline is September 25. 
 

Columbia Economics Review

The Columbia University Economics Review is seeking undergraduate paper/thesis submissions for the upcoming edition published December 2020. Research papers, seminar papers and/or theses from all economic disciplines are welcome.  Submissions are due September 25 to econreview@columbia.edu in PDF or .Doc format with your name, contact info, and short academic bio. 20-21 Iowa Corn Collegiate Advisory Team Applications Open

Iowa Corn is seeking applications for the 2020-2021 Collegiate Advisory Team. This team includes college students from all over Iowa to participate in training and professional development relating to Iowa's corn industry. The application is due October 5, 2020; more information is available here.

AgReliant Webinar and Podcast Series

AgReliant is debuting a podcast series aimed at professional development for students. The first podcast debuts September 15 and can be found here.

Northland CDL Continues Training and Testing

Northland CDL offers training and testing for students seeking to obtain a commerical driving license (CDL).  Students must first obtain a CDL permit through the Iowa DOT Driver’s License Station, then can contact Northland for more services. FlagshipFridays

The Student Innovation Center will offer Flagship Fridays What IF— Innovators Forum,” beginning Friday, September 11 and continuing throughout the acdemic year. It will be an interviewer moderated, on-line conversation session with leaders representing a diverse scope and scale of innovation on Fridays from 12-1:30pm. Industry leaders will share their personal stories of innovation as well as their perspective of how, where, when, and why innovation is such a critical driver of social and economic progress and sustainability. Pre Law Club/Advising

Interested students can check out Pre Law Club's page through the student organizations database. Students interested in learning more about pre-law at Iowa State can schedule a meeting with the pre-law adviser through ISUAppointments in AccessPlus. 
 

Printing on Campus

Students are able to print on campus in the Parks Library. Upload print jobs to the virtual queue PaperCut, then sign in on a release station in the library to print. Your ubill account is charged ONLY for what you print, rather than use your printing credits.  Find more info here.
 

Outdoor Wifi Available 

Iowa State has provided additional WiFi service in outdoor areas to promote social distancing and for students to enjoy the warm weather. You can view these additional service areas by viewing the campus map and selecting "Outdoor Wifi" from the right-side options. 

Fall 2020 Career Fairs

 

Mark your calendars now for the upcoming Fall 2020 Career Fairs. All fairs will be held virtually this fall through CareerEco. The CALS Virtual Career Fair will be held Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14. Each of these three fairs will be held from 10-5PM on the scheduled dates. 


Student registration is now available through Career Eco (link to Sept 29; link to Sept 30) Some helpful tips are to begin researching which companies will be attending the fair and use this checklist to prep for a successful event.
