A Message from the Dean
WHC Students, Faculty and Staff,

After two weeks into the fall semester, I am very pleased to see how relatively smooth the start of the new academic year has gone.  I am also well aware that it may be difficult for students, especially our incoming students, to find ways to meet their peers and get to know members of our community.  In time, I anticipate that there will be more opportunities to interact with others socially.  Until then, I deeply appreciate your continued efforts to abide by the campus safety and reopening plan.

Since the last installment of the newsletter, several good pieces of news have reached my desk, which I would like to briefly highlight.

First, I am pleased to announce that the total number of student-faculty external publications has risen to 104.  This marks a major milestone in the history of the Wilkes Honors College, an achievement we should all be proud of and celebrate!

Second, I have learned that the WHC received a 5-star mortar board rating issued by Inside Honors for its upcoming Fall 2020 edition.  This is the highest rating a university honors program can receive.  More information about this wonderful news will be disseminated in the coming months.

Third and finally, I would like to offer a big round of applause to all faculty and staff who took the time to facilitate the Freshman Book Forum as panelists.  Given the limitations of our situation, the virtual format of this WHC tradition was delivered with remarkable precision for the first time without a single glitch.  Plans for break-out sessions to discuss the book in more depth are currently underway.

As I continue to engage on my Listening Tour, I am constantly impressed by all of the amazing stories and ideas which I hear about the Honors College – and there is no shortage of them.  Stay tuned for announcements regarding student listening events which I intend to hold later on this semester.

Go Owls!

Justin Perry, Ph.D.
