A Catholic Voice for Belarus


The CCEE Presidency expressed sympathy from the European Episcopate to Monsignor Kondrusiewicz and to the Church in Belarus.
Justice & Peace Europe also manifested their sympathy with a public statement by their Executive Committee.
 
Rome
 
Michael Schöpf SJ has been appointed Deputy International Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). He will begin on January 1, 2021, in Rome.

Portugal
Fernando Ribeiro SJ is the new social apostolate delegate for the Portuguese Province. We most welcome you to the network and thank Frederico Lemos SJ, for his work in the past years.
Germany
Jan Roser SJ became on July 31, 2020, the newly appointed German Provincial by Superior General Fr. Arturo Sosa SJ.
 
Central Europe
Bernhard Bürgler SJ will become the first Provincial of the new Central European Province, from 27 April 2021. It includes the provinces of Austria, Germany, Lithuania-Latvia & Switzerland.
JESC endorsed the Advocacy Letter to ratify the ILO Convention 190 (Ending Violence and Harassment at Work) adopted in Geneva, 108th ILC session 21 June 2019.

Le retour à Dieu du Père Stanislas Opiela SJ
 
Stanislas Opiela SJ, polish native, passed away at the age of 82, on the 29 of June, two days after the 50th anniversary of his Priest Ordination by former Father General Pedro Arrupe SJ. He was well-known for his commitments with the Society of Jesus and was the First Superior of the Russian region (1992-1998). In 2001 he arrived at Strasbourg to join the Catholic Office for information on European initiatives (OCIPE). He was OCIPE Vice-President for two years, one of them in Brussels, and moved back to Poland in 2004.  Rest in Peace.
