A lot of people are reaching for things to make them feel better lately. Many are discovering that gardening is great for mental health.

While this is welcomed, it has created a situation where our growers have struggled to meet the unexpected demand, and movement of freight around Australia has become restricted, so we have seen some product shortages.

The good news is that our major seasonal lines (eg citrus, gardenias, hydrangeas, phalaenopsis orchids, poinsettias, etc) are all pre-ordered well in advance and supply of these items is secure when their season comes. The nursery is well stocked with a range of items from seedlings, colour, perennials, hedging, natives and citrus.

We have over 100 plant suppliers that we source stock from, and we are talking to them regularly about availability and lead times for products. We are doing everything we can to make sure we have lots of goodies to get you through spring in your garden.

If we don't have a particular plant in stock, we will make our best efforts to get them in for you. We don't charge additional fees for ordering stock for you, so if you are looking for something special, let us know and we will try and source it for you.

Thank you very much for your continued patience and understanding. We are amazed at how positive and kind our customers have been while we try to find the best way to serve you during these current restrictions.

Just a reminder, we are offering phone orders, kerbside collection and home deliveries, so call us on 9822 3305.

Many people wait eagerly all through winter for this moment! Tomatoes are back! We have ordered a good mix of best selling varieties this year, including some heirloom varieties for those looking for something a bit different.

Choosing a variety can be a bit confusing, as they all have different characteristics - some climb, some grow on a bush, some crop all at once, and others produce fruit all season long.

To help you choose, we have written a guide outlining the key differences in the varieties. Of course, you can have a chat to our team for additional advice.

You can't really talk about tomatoes without mentioning basil! They really are the perfect companion plants in the summer edible garden. Plant basil around the base of your tomatoes and when harvested together make delicious bruschetta!

The first stock of basil for the year has just started arriving (seedlings only at this stage). 20cm pots coming soon.

Citrus are hungry plants that need fertile soil and regular feeding to produce lots of flowers in spring that will go on to be juicy fruit. Start your feeding routine now with a fertiliser for flowering plants. We suggest Harry's Citrus Food for perfectly formulated nutrition.
Water your citrus well especially when it is producing fruit. Citrus have shallow roots that spread out along the ground so make sure you water out to the tree line. Water early in the morning, or in the evening for most efficient use of water. Mulch around the base to help it retain moisture.
Citrus trees grow (and fruit) best when they are planted in a spot with lots of sun (around 6-8 hours is perfect). Citrus in pots can be moved around to receive maximum sunlight. Don't grow lawn and other plants around the base of your tree because citrus are shallow rooted and cannot thrive if there is root competition.

We would just like to take a moment to point out how succulents are coming into their own at the moment. Succulents are absolute heroes in the garden, particularly in tough conditions like poor and sandy soil, and coastal locations. The tough conditions often bring out their beautiful colours, and then in late winter/early spring they give beautiful floral displays. So easy to grow, so easy to love!
Ivy

We've received some beautiful varieties of ivy this week, including the ever-popular large leaf variety, as well as Pittsburgh.

Ivy is a tough ground cover or climber, great for areas of your garden that are in part shade. Also great in hanging baskets, or for trailing over the edge of a pot.
New season colour

Summer flowering annuals have arrived! The first of the petunia and impatiens seedlings are now in stock. 20cm petunias arriving this week.

Easy Colour Vincas and New Guinea impatiens are expected early/mid October.  Place your pre-order now.

We have also received a great looking order of bacopa in Easy Colour packs.
We wish you could come in and see some of the new pots we have in store at the moment. Here is a snapshot, we have a lot more in stock which we will continue to share updates on social media and in upcoming newsletters.
