Class 5 Greek Olympiads...
This year's Olympiad has been brought home to Chrysalis, and the Class 6 students will join Class 5 this Friday to help create a sense of competition, as they can't travel to Cape Byron this year.
The Ancient Greek ideal stands as a great symbol of the students' inner experience in Class Five. The original games were rituals in which the individual sought to give expression to the creative powers of the gods. The ideals of truth, beauty and goodness permeate the activities and the five classical exercises - running, jumping, discus, javelin, and wrestling. Each of these movements mirrors the inner archetypal movements that form the basis for moral education.
As well as strength and skill - which are easily determined by the fastest runner, furthest thrower or the best wrestler - the phsyical beauty of the athlete's performance, their inner qualities such as determination, effort and sportsmanship are also valued at these Olympic games.
Spring bunting...
Spring is well and truly here and we have a different kind of festival manifesting. As part of that, Class 7 and 8 will be sewing bunting out of colourful material. If you have any colourful, interesting old clothes/fabric around, please feel free to donate it to this worthy cause! Material can either be given direct to a Class 7 or 8 student or teacher, or given to the Admin office via your child's teacher.
Book Week is coming up next month...
This year's book week theme is "Curious Creatures, Wild Minds"... and the school holidays provide a great time for students to start thinking about and creating a costume. We encourage students to recycle, upcycle, and even ask to look in the school's costume store if needs be, to create a costume from a favourite book or theme. Students can work collectively or individually and classes will do their own decorating as well as a traditional parade of costumes. It's a fun opportunity for students to tap into their creative flair, and delve further into the wonderful world of books! Book Week is October 17th - 23rd.
Parent Cyber Safety talk...
As a follow up to the cyber safety workshops held for Class 6, 7 & 8 students on Monday, Senior Constable Snow, School Liaison Officer, will shortly be presenting an online workshop to the parent body also. The date will be announced shortly. Given the recent potential exposure to young children worldwide witnessing disturbing footage on the online medium, TikTok, it shows how important it is for parents to be informed of the extreme caution that is needed to keep children safe in these times. If you did not read the letter sent from the school yesterday, please see it here. We thank Bishop Druitt for giving permission to forward this letter on.
Reminder: Remote Learning Preparedness workshops...
Two parent workshops will be run to support parents should we need to return to remote learning. This is a great opportunity for guided learning to support your child's journey with Google Classroom. These workshops are open to parents from all year levels. Please RSVP to admin@chrysalis.nsw.edu.au to confirm your place for either: Thora Hall this Friday 11th September from 10am-12 noon, or Bellingen Library next Tuesday 15th from 6-8pm.
New Chrysalis family...
Last week we welcomed to the school, Eleanor in Class 1, daughter of Lisa and Francis. Please make them feel welcome!
Park St bus stop...
It is our plan to continue with our staff presence at the Park Street bus stop until the end of the Term to help encourage positive behaviour from all of our students at the bus stop and ensure a positive bus trip to Chrysalis.
COVID-19 and flu symptoms reminder...
Families are reminded that anyone who is sick with flu-like symptoms, even with mild symptoms, should get tested and not attend school until a negative result is confirmed and feeling well again.
Blessings...
