The OIE marks World Rabies Day
and presents its ongoing work on various activities

This month's issue highlights the OIE's activities in the global fight against rabies. A new United Against Rabies Forum aims to accelerate progress towards the elimination of human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030. The disease continues to kill one person every nine minutes - almost half of them children. Read more.

This issue also takes a closer look at tackling global challenges through strong international cooperation, the OIE Observatory, African swine fever, antiparasitic resistance, further response to COVID-19 and more.

New online training: Navigating the Tripartite Zoonoses Guide (TZG)

Taking a multisectoral, One Health approach is necessary to address complex health threats at the human-animal-environment interface. The Tripartite organisations – the OIE, FAO and WHO, launched the Tripartite Zoonoses Guide (TZG) in 2019, to provide guidance and best practices for addressing zoonotic diseases in countries. This new training introduces participants to the TZG while providing practical guidance for strengthening a One Health approach to zoonotic diseases.

To tackle global challenges, solutions can only come from strong international cooperation

International organisations play an important role in supporting countries to tackle the COVID-19 crisis and address global challenges. To this end, the OIE participated in the 7th Annual Meeting of International Organisations earlier this month. Together with 48 heads of international organisations, OIE Director General Dr Monique Éloit endorsed the Joint Statement for effective, impactful and co-ordinated international action, through international rulemaking.

Is African swine fever returning to Africa ? An analysis of 15 years of WAHIS data

Long-believed to be a truly 'African' disease, occasionally affecting Africa's neighbours in southern Europe, ASF embarked on an unprecedented invasion of the rest of the world around 2006, with the first introduction reported well outside its usual geographical range in the Caucasus, in Georgia in 2007.

Results of the survey on antiparasitic agents and resistance in terrestrial and aquatic animals in the Africa region

Antiparasitic resistance (APR) is an important challenge across the world, including in the Africa Region. This type of resistance poses a significant threat to animal health and welfare and can result in production losses in food-producing species, presenting a challenge for food security.
