Responding to Tragedy in Beirut
On August 4, a massive chemical explosion in the Port of Beirut resulted in extensive damage over much of the capital, the deaths of more than 200 people, the injury of 5,000 others and the displacement of some 300,000 people. The PCC offers our heartfelt prayer to all those affected by this devastating tragedy.

The PCC’s long-standing partner, the Near East School of Theology (NEST), was affected by the explosion with damage extending to all eight floors and two basements of the NEST building; the glass windows, doors, panels, as well as the internal wooden doors, were completely shattered.

Fortunately, it has been reported that NEST staff and community are safe and uninjured; however, this tragedy compounds the challenges NEST faces as it grapples with instability in the region and impacts of COVID-19 on its programs. The PCC has already made an initial transfer of funds to help NEST rebuild and continue its ministry.

NEST trains 90% of the protestant pastors in the Middle East, keeping alive the faith in the region where Christ was born and taught. Help NEST recover from this trauma and continue to shine the light of Christ in a troubled world. International Ministries will match your gifts, both large and small, up to $50,000.

Latest and Final PCPak Collection of Resources
The year 2020 has brought many challenges and opportunities for congregations across the country. One of the resources affected by changing circumstances is the PCPak collection of educational and informative resources.

People are no longer using mail in the same way as they used to, and the printing industry has changed over the years as electronic methods have dominated. In light of these changes, and considering many others, the decision has been made to end the PCPak mailings and instead distribute materials via other mediums, such as the PCC website, e-news and the Presbyterian Connection newspaper.

The latest issue of PCPak is available online and includes:
  • Daily Prayer & Mission Moment Calendar (October 2020 – January 2021)
  • Cybersecurity Best Practices for Churches
  • Canadian Society of Presbyterian History Online Conference
  • Presbyterian History Newsletter – Spring & Fall 2020 Issue
  • Presbyterians Read Advent 2020 Book Study flyer
  • 2021 PCC Wall Calendar bulletin insert
