Fr. Mark Haydu, LC on September Virtue: Stewardship Part 2 ; Managing God's Gifts
Tkc!
Dear Lumen Members and Friends,
As we return back to normal business and school in times that are anything but normal, we in Lumen are excited to keep supporting you with brotherhood and regular chances to refocus on what endures.
The effects of Covid-19 are enduring longer than any of us would like, but where others see challenges, we see opportunities. We have greater chances to lead, to serve, to love. Jesus didn’t back down from the cross and nor do we as men called to bring light to the world!
This month we will go a little deeper into our core value of Stewardship. We all have been given gifts and blessings, and as good stewards, we want to offer our Creator and Father a good return on his loving investment in us!
This newsletter is full of important info, so please read all the info below.
Of particular interest to me is the announcement of our new National Chaplain, Fr. Nathaniel Haslam. I am excited about how he will lead Lumen spiritually and I am firmly committed to continue serving Lumen as the local New Jersey and Manhattan chaplain.
May God bless you all as we keep shining our light in a world deeply in need of Christ like love and leadership.
We hope you are keeping safe and blessed amidst today’s challenges!
Lumen Institute continues to adjust and serve you during evolving times and needs. Four years ago, Fr. Mark Haydu returned to the United States after 15 years in Rome to become the National Lumen Chaplain and the Manhattan Chapter Chaplain. It has been a great gift to work alongside him as he led the spiritual and formative offerings for Lumen. God has blessed all of his hard work and Lumen has grown considerably under his leadership. We now have more spiritually mature and engaged leaders bringing Christ’s light into society at a time when it is desperately needed.
As many of you know, there has been exciting news for some of our former Lumen National Chaplains. Fr. John Connor, LC, founder of Lumen and first National Chaplain, was elected the Legionaries International Superior and moved to Rome last March. This is the most senior role of the Legionaries of Christ Order. Fr. Shawn Aaron, Lumen’s second National Chaplain, became the Legionaries National Superior in May. These shifts resulted in Fr. Mark now being asked to dedicate more of his time to development work for the Order, which with the Covid-19 crisis has only increased in urgency. As a result, he will be giving-up his role as National Lumen Chaplain. The good news is that he will continue as a local Lumen Chaplain with the New Jersey and Greenwich Chapters.
A sign of Lumen’s maturing is that we have many gifted chaplains from which to choose his successor. The Legionaries of Christ have offered and the Lumen Board has approved Fr. Nathaniel Haslam of the Houston Chapter to take on the National Lumen Chaplaincy starting September 1st. The work that Fr. Nathaniel has done in his eight years as Chaplain of the Houston Chapter has been tremendous and we are honored to have such a gifted Chaplain stepping up to serve Lumen nationally.
We are very appreciative of Fr. Mark’s efforts and wish him continued success in his new role. The Board now looks forward to working more closely with Fr. Nathaniel as we continue Lumen’s strong growth.
God bless,

Record numbers of Spiritual Coaching with our Chapter Chaplains and Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi have been held using ZOOM during the last few months. Some Chapter are resuming in-person coaching.
Most Chapters are continuing to meet in person for safe Leadership Circles. The majority of the circles meet outdoors. Lumen will continue to have ZOOM available to all who wish to use it.
Many of you are doing great works helping others during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We would love to have your pictures and a couple of paragraphs to show what all of our Chapters and members are involved with on their own or as a group. It would be wonderful to witness the Lumen Action plan at work. Please email to Paivi@LumenInstititue.org
If you have a story you would like to share on how you did and are handling the quarantine in our next Newsletter, please send a writeup (with a picture if you have) to Paivi atPaivi@LumenInstitute.org
