ECHO ISPCTN Steering Committee
ECHO ISPCTN Working Groups
Next steps

Based on the feedback received from Steering Committee members after the August meeting, the DCOC is taking steps to move the working groups forward.
  • Obesity and Pre-, Peri-, and Post-natal Working Group chairs are meeting this week to form their groups.
  • All nominated members of the other three working groups will also meet to identify two senior investigator co-chairs.
  • One of the DCOC Project Specialists will reach out soon to set up these meetings.
The Capacity Building Working Group will sunset and a new Faculty Development Working Group will form. If you would like to participate in the initial drafting of the scope of work for the Faculty Development Working Group (recognizing that these are usually senior faculty members with little FTE for ISPCTN activities and whose work should be focused, high yield, and not time sensitive), please contact Jessica Snowden at jsnowden@uams.edu.

Monthly Steering Committee Meeting
Monday, September 7, 2020

Cancelled
Due to the Labor Day holiday, this month's meeting will be cancelled. The DCOC will plan to cover all important topics at the upcoming virtual ECHO ISPCTN Steering Committee Meeting on September 29, 30 and October 1.

Virtual ECHO ISPCTN Steering Committee Meeting

1:00 - 4:30 CST/2:00 - 5:30 EST
Action requested

Registration
In order for the DCOC to better plan collaborative activities for the general session as well as breakout sessions, it is important that you register to attend this meeting. If you have not registered, please do so by Monday, September 7.  Click HERE to register.

Meeting Planning Team
If you are interested in serving on the planning team to help form the agenda for the meeting, contact Jessica Snowden at jsnowden@uams.edu.

Leadership Committee nominations requested
Two positions on the ECHO ISPCTN Leadership Committee will go up for re-election at the September meeting. One of these positions is the designated “junior” investigator, defined as someone 10 years or less from completion of terminal training (e.g., I finished a fellowship in Spring 2009; therefore I am at 11 years post-training and would not qualify). Importantly, junior investigators may also run for the other at-large position.

To run in this election for positions on the Leadership Committee in its current structure, you must be a Principal Investigator at an ISPCTN site. If you have a nominee or would like to self-nominate, please send the name and email address of the nominee to Jessica Snowden at jsnowden@uams.edu by Monday, September 21.

There has been a change regarding the November 3-4 face-to-face Steering Committee meeting originally scheduled to take place in Arlington, Virginia. This meeting will now take place virtually. The DCOC has also added a third day, November 5, to the agenda.

Due to the membership size of the Steering Committee, the DCOC is asking that each clinical site awardee register a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 4 attendees for this virtual conference.

Trial Updates

VDORA1 Part 2 is actively enrolling!
The VDORA1 sites have enrolled 11 participants to date. Seven participants are currently in the diary card run-in phase prior to randomization, having vitamin D levels that qualified for inclusion. We hope to have our first VDORA1 Part 2 randomizations next week!

The other four enrolled participants were screen fails
due to out of range Vitamin D levels, but may re-screen in a month. There are only four of our 15 original sites still awaiting activation and we are bringing up three new sites as well.

Please continue to send all questions that you may have about site activation to AskVDORA@uams.edu.

Intervention Phase
iAmHealthy has completed baseline measures, randomization, and is in the intervention phase which lasts from August 24, 2020 through early 2021. iAmHealthy randomized 104 participants with 52 participants in each intervention arm: newsletter only and iAmHealthy behavioral intervention.

COVID and postal delays slowed activity monitor returns, resulting in the DSMB allowing the study to drop this requirement for randomization. However, this information is still important to the study, and sites are working with participants to collect activity monitoring for at least 4 days in a 7-day period. Sites will have until September 17 to complete this collection.

At the September virtual steering committee meeting, we’ll discuss many of the “lessons learned” from remote and rural recruitment in this study to date. All of the iAmHealthy sites have worked closely with the DCOC team and protocol chairs to ensure the success of this study.

Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this study a success!

The ACT NOW trials are ready to launch on Tuesday, September 8.

The ACT NOW ESC Protocol Refresher Training is Friday, September 4. Be sure your team has this date on their calendar!
