Letter from the PTSA President

Dear Evergreen Family
I would love to take this opportunity to welcome new and returning students, parents, and staff members to the school year 2020-21. Hope you had a relaxing and a peaceful summer, despite the unprecedented times we are going through.
I applaud each one of you for your commitment towards your children’s education. This is a year of transformation. We adapt because we don’t just want to survive, but because we want to thrive, no matter what challenges are thrown in our direction.
So cherished parents, let’s combine forces; embrace this change, and together grow exponentially!
If you are a returning or a new member of our PTSA, we are indebted to you for your effort, time and commitment for being a part of the largest child advocacy program in the world! As for those of you who are yet to be a part of our PTSA, I urge each and every one of you to become a part of our team. The most important reason to join the PTSA is for your own children, to make their education experience richer and more fulfilling.  So help us help you!

Together we can move mountains

We still have some important committee chairs that need to be filled. These positions don’t ask a lot from you in terms of time commitment, but they are high on job satisfaction and the perfect chance for you to showcase your talent and management skills.

Open Chair Positions

  • Reflections Chair: Reflections is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. It is a great opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. Chair training is provided by the district council in the fall. The duties include promoting the Reflections program at school, coordinating the review of student submissions, and celebrating student participants.

  • Webmaster Chair: The webmaster will be responsible to maintain the PTSA website by keeping it up-to-date and functional. Web designing skills, although not mandatory, would be a plus.

  • Theatre Chair: EMS Theatre chair will be responsible for negotiating and issuing contracts to the vendor, promotion of theatre program at school, scheduling theatre rehearsals, deciding the performance venue, sale of Theatre tickets, and so on.

  • Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator's responsibilities include recruiting and training new volunteers, keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills and keeping volunteers informed.

  • Emergency Preparation Coordinator: Responsible for the coordination and implementation of emergency preparedness standards to facilitate a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. Coordinate education and exercises within the school to ensure an organized response during a disaster.

Enrichment Programs
All enrichment programs are sponsored by
EMS PTSA. If you're not an EMS PTSA member already, Join PTSA Now!

PTSA is looking forward to manage our enrichment programs virtually during this remote learning time in the fall. All our programs are run by volunteers, so please support these programs and share your love of learning with our children. The registration will be open in the second week of September. We are working out the final details on our website. Stay connected for more details!

Math Team
Math Team is open to all EMS students who are interested in various Math competitions beyond school curriculum. Competitions includes virtual MathCount, tentative AMC (if online test is available) and many more per covid restrictions on participation.

Science Club
We offer two excellent and highly competitive opportunities to our budding scientists to participate in - National Science Bowl, and You Be The Chemist.
We are looking for committed and experienced parent to chair Science Olympiad. If interested, please contact our VP Enrichment: enrichment@evergreenptsa.org.

Robotics Club
This is a competitive club for future engineers and innovators to learn about robotics concepts and build a robot to compete in the VEX IQ Global Challenge.

Spelling Bee
The Spelling Bee is open to all EMS students who loves the test of word spellings and their meanings. It is a great way for students to expand their vocabulary, expose themselves to new concepts and learn how to stand up in front of peers and compete in a friendly way.

Bridge
Bridge is a mental game that both challenging and fun. It is also a team sport, fostering cooperation, communication, and sportsmanship. It is a free online program offered by Seattle NextGen Bridge, our club partner last year.

Here's a small survey  to add more enrichment programs to our existing ones. Let us know and we'll make it possible for you!
