I'm writing you from Bowen Island, British Columbia, where I am finishing off a mandatory fourteen day quarantine after arriving here from the United States. This weekend I will be performing some small, physically distanced concerts with my friend and collaborator Marc Destrubé before we both head to Ontario to take part in the Sweetwater Music Festival. This will be my first year as Artistic Director for the festival, and having totally reimagined the festival from my initial plans, we are going to be presenting a fantastic Canadian String Quartet, and performing outdoor concerts all around Owen Sound, Ontario from September 17 - 20th. If you are nearby, please check our website for free events, and LIVE music!!! I am so grateful to be able to continue working, teaching, and composing during this time, and look forward to sharing some of my upcoming dates with you here. The picture to the left is of one of my friends Michelle Djokic, who became part of my quaranteam over the last several months. We started and established a new series called Manzanita Music Collective in Carmel by the Sea, CA and were able to perform over 15 concerts during the summer, outdoors. It was a dream!!! More exciting information on that collaboration to come.
Thank you so much for reading, Edwin

It has been a beautiful journey teaching online, and I'm looking forward to do more. I am also starting an initiative that may allow more students to have lessons. Please donate below if you are able!

I cannot wait to share more about one of my projects over the last six months called Poetry in Motion. This has been a collaboration with my dear friend Erin Carey, and guest poet Casey Cushing where have have produced an extremely unique program of original music, movement, and poetry. This project has been so amazing to share, and workshop for months in different places around Big Sur, California. It is a very place based project, and we really look forward to finding ways to bring this project around the world, when that becomes more feasible again in the near future!

One of the most amazing things for us as artists to be aware of during the current global situation is arts organizations that have figured a way to move forward even in the chaos of dealing with the current situation. Producing, and directing artistic performances safely, and carefully, and continuing to care for the audiences and patrons of arts organizations around the world has been a really big task. This is so important because if we can continue to create opportunities for art, and artists, we therefore keep them busy, employed, and essential. I truly believe, that artists, all throughout history, are essential.

I am so fortunate to be able to continue composing during the current pandemic, and am writing a piece for Opera Atelier that my dear friend Measha Brueggergosman will be singing. This new piece will be premiered for a Virtual performance at Koerner Hall, in Toronto, Canada, on October 28th 2020. I really look forward to being part of this incredible concert, and sharing this new piece with all of you!
