Last week, Russ Muse began our series in James. Here are some key points:
  • James, the younger brother of Jesus, has a different writing style than Paul. He jumps right in, paints a raw picture, and comes back to add detail.  He is writing to Jews who believed Jesus was the Messiah and due to persecution from either the Romans or non-believers, have scattered and were going through hardship because of it.  Many of us feel scattered and are going through hardship both individually and collectively and can relate with them to some degree.
  • James never questions whether these believers HAVE faith. He speaks to the faith in them. Faith is not something we have to manufacture or muster up. As believers we have it and it is built up as we face trouble and opposition.
  • You don't build endurance without opposition. Faith = active dependence on God.  The trials you go through strengthen your dependence on the One who loves you the most.
James: What's Next

This Sunday, Russ will teach us from James 1:5-8.  To print out a manuscript version for notes/personal study, click here. (The document is being built week-by-week with the current passage on top.)  Also, Sandi Yaggie will provide a related puzzle for kids (and kids-at-heart) at the back table.

Our next project is to show support and appreciation to our law enforcement personnel at the Mauldin Police Department (including dispatchers, office staff, etc.) For the next couple of Sundays, blank gift bags and markers will be available at the back of the church. Please take a few minutes to write a personal note of thanks and/or prayers and words of support (kids can draw on the bags!) Part of our online church family? You can reply to this email with your sentiment and we will write it on a bag for you!  The church will fill the bag with helpful and enjoyable items and they will be delivered to employees and officers at the end of the month.
We are currently meeting in person on Sundays as well as offering live stream here. Details on how we are operating during the COVID-19 situation can be found here.
