Principal Update on School Start Date and Wed Zoom Office Hours

Dear Families,
As you have probably heard, Chancellor Carranza has given your children an extension on their summer assignments!
He’s moved the start of the year to September 16th for remote interactions and September 21st for in person classes. I do not yet have details about how the random testing will be rolled out. I will keep you informed as I learn more.
At Booker T., we will use the September 16, 17, and 18 as orientation days. We had planned to have use the first instructional days for this purpose, and now there will be built in time for the students to meet their teachers, classmates, and our administrators and support staff. They will also participate in a technology orientation. A full schedule will be forthcoming. On September 21st, all students will begin our regular classes and schedule for both remote and in the building learning.
You should have already received your cohort assignment. Sixth graders will find out this week if they are on the early or late schedule. This information will be sent via email. Please note that even if your child will be remote 100%, we have assigned them to a cohort. While your letter might have said your child will be in the building on a specific day, that is if you change your mind and decide in November to choose blended learning. In the meantime, your child will be home on that day.
Although the start is delayed, we are proceeding with our mandatory safety assemblies next week – on Tuesday evening (6th graders) and Wednesday evening (7th and 8th graders.)
Tomorrow night I am having “Open Office Hours” from 8:00PM-9:30PM. Feel free to drop in and ask a question or listen to the questions that other people have.
