A wonderful display of Speed, Strength and Precision...
A big CONGRATULATIONS to all the students who tried their very best at the 2020 Chrysalis Athletics Carnival. We certainly have some speedy students who could further their athletics ability in coming years. After practicing regularly this term, some of the students surprised themselves with the distance of their throws in shot put and javelin. It is great to see the students really push themselves past their comfort zones. The novelty events are always surprisingly popular with all ages at the carnival.
THANK YOU to Class 8 Helpers particularly Poe, Heidi, Milo and Kye who worked tirelessly. Also, Erik, Peter and Finlay helped diligently on long jump. Anais helped with the opening speech.
THANK YOU to Class 2 and 3 who came and helped create a sporting atmosphere with their banners, plaques and cheering.
Also, many thanks to Alison for her energy and enthusiasm in facilitating the day for the students and to Sammi for capturing many magical images! You can see them on our social media pages.
Many magical images!...
Hopefully, you are all now following Chrysalis on social media, as Sammi is filling our hearts and eyes with beautiful sights from around the school. Just to give you a taste of the stories she created in the last week, if you haven't already see them: THE RETURN OF LADY SPRING// ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2020// MORE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL// EDUCATING THE WHOLE HUMAN BEING// NORSE STORIES AND ART IN CLASS FOUR// SHADOW PUPPETRY FROM CLASS FOUR// EDUCAREDO STUDY GROUP// THE SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD// LEARNING THAT DEVELOPS OVER THE LIFETIME// CUBBIES CUBBIES EVERYWHERE// CLASS THREE MEASUREMENT MAIN LESSON// MARTSISHOR: MOLDOVAN SPRING TALE// WEAR IT PURPLE DAY//

An update from SEA on COVID-19 restrictions...
Steiner Education Australia strongly feels for schools who have to comply with directives and yet again quickly adapt to ever changing restrictions and circumstances. Many in Steiner communities have become anxious and also concerned about such restrictions which seem illogical and not relevant, for example, to their small regional school. SEA has been working with the Association of Independent Schools to seek clarification from the Department of Health on the current requirements, and unfortunately they are not prepared to alter the directive on singing or on-site visits, until the end of Term 3.
The Dept of Health believe the next few weeks are crucial in containing COVID 19 and have responded by saying that they are not differentiating the response to regional areas as long as travel all around the state is permitted. In this risky time period they do not feel easing restrictions in regional areas is possible at the moment. In relation to the need for children to have a covid test if they have flu like symptoms before going back to school: Yes, this is confirmed to be the case. Parents/carers should consult their doctor if a child suffers from ongoing hayfever, allergies or similar. If a child tests negative for covid and still has symptoms please consult your doctor for best commonsense approach to take in terms of returning to school.
We stay hopeful for a very positive term 4 complete with singing!
Remote Learning Preparedness...
Similar to our Bushfire Preparedness strategy, the school is currently developing our Remote Learning Preparedness, should the need for isolation arise again. Our staff, students and families showed great flexibility and resilience in adapting to remote learning so quickly in Term 1. There are areas that we can improve on, should we implement remote learning again, including offering assistance to students and families who may require some additional support in accessing learning materials.
Class 6, 7 & 8 students will receive a "practice" home learning session in the classroom. Two parent workshops will be run to support parents:
- a daytime workshop will be held at Thora Hall on Friday 11th September from 10am-12 noon
- an evening workshop will be held at the Bellingen Library on Tuesday 15th from 6-8pm.
COVID restrictions means these workshops will be run one-on-one. Bookings will be essential. Email admin@chrysalis.nsw.edu.au to reserve your spot.
A member of our parent community, who works for NBN Co, will be present at the workshop to provide internet access for the workshop attendees. He will also be available to answer questions about the nbn Education Assistance Package and how it may apply to Chrysalis families.
Trauma-affected students and emotional connection...
Building on from our staff Professional Development workshops with Berry Street in Term 1, despite the delay of delivering the rest of this program due to COVID 19 restrictions - the staff continue to work with Berry Street to identify how they can best meet the needs of trauma-affected students.
We also encourage any families that may need additional emotional or parenting support, whether it be due to last year's Bushfire season, this year's COVID situation, or their own personal circumstances, to access community-based support services through the Bellingen Shire Connection Centre - or contact the school if you need further guidance and support.
School photos...
All class photos will be sent electronically to parents today. If you do not receive your child's class photo, please contact the school office.
Blessings...
