Dear Good Shepherd Family,

On July 25/26, we started a new teaching series called, “Oneness & Witness: Jesus’ Vision for His Church.” During this series we have shared the vision for our next season of life together as a church. As part of our series, we moved our on-campus worship services outside, while also continuing to provide online services. It has been a very rich and meaningful time for our church, and we are so grateful for how you have responded to the vision! Our outdoor services will continue through the remainder of the Oneness & Witness series, which will end the weekend of September 12/13.

Women's Bible Study This Fall

Good Shepherd Women’s Ministry is offering an opportunity for you to learn and grow with the women of our church. We have designed a framework where everyone is encouraged to find a small group of people who will study together. In a small group of 3-6 people, we will be studying the book of Hebrews using a Bible study written by Jen Wilkin entitled Better. In this verse-by-verse study we will explore how God “provided something better for us” in the person of Jesus Christ (Heb. 11:40). Check out the video!

GriefShare

It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel.

This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. “Going to GriefShare feels like having warm arms wrapped around you when you’re shivering.”

GriefShare will meet weekly this Fall to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Classes at Good Shepherd will begin Sunday, September 13, in the Green Room, from 4:30-6:30 PM. Materials for the class cost $30. You can pay when you come to the class.

Local Outreach Opportunities

THANK YOU for the overwhelming outpouring of generosity in responding to the local outreach opportunities. Here are a few more opportunities we are asking for this week.

  • We are collecting cards and/or pictures of encouragement for the First Responders.
  • The Gresham First Image Pregnancy Resource Center has requested some new or gently used fall/winter items for newborn to 18 months as well as new or gently used fall/winter maternity clothing (especially coats). You can bring items to the church office, purchase from the Local Outreach Wishlist (click link below) or donate to the Gresham center directly.

Memorial for Marguerite Spinks

Marguerite was born on April 14, 1920 and went to be with Jesus on August 20, 2020. Marguerite and her husband Jim were married on August 8, 1943 and were founding members of GSCC. Jim was an elder for many years, and Marguerite was always a faithful pillar of the church. She and Jim were both survivors of the Great Depression and of World War II. After the war, she and Jim raised three sons. She worked for many years for the Gresham School Administration as an administrative assistant and in the printing department. Marguerite became known as the greatest of mothers-in-law, an especially sacrificial grandmother, and a faithful friend.

There will be a “Family Memorial” on September 11th at Good Shepherd Community Church.

GSCC Library Is Open

The Good Shepherd Library is open during office hours during the week but the building is closed on the weekends. Please return your library books to the church office during the week and/or on the weekends in a bin outside the South entrance doors.
