Spring is here and to say we are thrilled would be an understatement!

Spring signals the end of winter dormancy when our gardens spring back into life.  After the unusual winter we've all been through, the sense of hope and renewal that spring brings is very welcome.

We look forward to the day when we can welcome you back into the nursery to celebrate all the joys of spring. In the meantime we are here to help you via phone to 'call and collect' or home delivery, so call us on 9822 3305 for orders.
What to do in the garden in spring
Father's Day
Sunday 6 September

Special dads deserve special treats! If you have a dad who loves his garden, we can help you put together a great gift for him. We can assemble a customised hamper including goodies such as garden tools, fertilisers, plants, seeds and seedlings, gloves, knee pads and more!

We also have a selection of potted herbs and baskets (pictured below) that are the perfect gift for any dad!

If you can't decide, we can arrange a gift voucher for your Dad so that he can choose a gift for himself.
Here's a gift idea for the quirky dad. These face vases are a great prezzie for the dad who likes something a bit different!
For dads that like to have every tool for every job, we have a range of gardening equipment for pruning, hedging, digging, raking and planting.
Spring is feeding time!  Do you use seaweed based fertilisers on your garden? If not, then it's worth giving it a try for the multiple health benefits in your garden.  Using seaweed in your garden:
  • helps plants develop strong root systems, increasing plant health
  • improves iron deficiencies in plants
  • makes roses more resistant to black spot
  • helps soil retain moisture
  • makes lawns less likely to suffer from turf disease
  • improves your soil over time
These are just some of the benefits you will get from using seaweed in your garden.

It is important to note that seaweed shouldn't replace your regular fertiliser, but can be an another valuable addition to your garden health kit! We stock a range of brands, including the ever popular Seasol which is made right here in Melbourne.

African Daisies (Osteospermum x hybrida) are known for being tough and long flowering. They are great value, low growing shrubs for a low maintenance garden. They also go well as cut flowers in a little vase. The perfect way to cheer up your indoors.

When planting tomatoes, consider planting marigolds around the base of the tomato plants. Research has shown that the chemical component in marigolds - limonene - can reduce infestations of whitefly.

There's also some suggestion that marigolds may repel nematodes in the soil, which can cause damage to the roots of the tomato plant.

Edible flowers
If you planted pansies or violas this season, you can use them to brighten up your food!  Other edible flowers include nasturtiums, calendula, borage, lavender, native violets, and herb flowers like chives.

Of course, only use flowers that you know have not been sprayed with chemicals and check to be sure a flower is edible before eating it.
Roses
A fresh order of roses has just arrived in store today. Plant them now to ensure you get the maximum growth this season.

Varieties include best sellers such as Angel Face, Blue Moon, Mother's Love, as well as some David Austen varieties.
