 From the President

From the President

Our participation in the LHUCA/CASP Art Market on August 15th was a success!  $730 in sales of some of the art pieces we created for the Lubbock Arts Festival and one new member signup.  Again thanks to all of you who created these art pieces and to those who helped with the booth that Saturday.

We want to be on the lookout for more opportunities like this to sell our art inventory, so if anyone becomes aware of a possible event, please let us know!

You have also been made aware of our loss of grant funds which help us pay for awards and judge fees for our exhibits.  The new "Friends of West Texas Watercolor Society" sponsorship program is our first effort to offset this loss.  We hope you can participate in this program through personal giving or through approaching someone you know who may be able to give.  I have some of the professionally made brochures if anyone needs one, or you can create your own from the emailed file that you were sent.  We are trying to get contributions no later than mid-September so that the "Friends" can be recognized in our roster, and so we don't have to delay the new roster beyond October.

Our Fall Show planning is moving along nicely.  Because of the large exhibit space at the TTU Museum, artists will be allowed up to 4 entries each for this show.   If we could reach 60+ entries that would be awesome!!!

The "physical show" opening reception will coincide with the September 20th member meeting, which will take place at the TTU Museum, instead of the usual Legacy location.   Only the judging will be virtual.

Let's put on a beautiful show!

With gratitude,

Kathryn

2020-2021 Monthly Meeting Agenda

Most meetings take place on the third Sunday of each Month. In October, we usually have a visiting artist who judges our Winter Show and gives a Workshop.  However, I understand David Smith has canceled all workshops due to the latest COVID outbreak, he will judge the show virtually.

With school back in session, COVID may be on the rise and some events may be canceled, but these plans are in place for now.

September 20, 2020 program by Kathryn Thomas (meeting will be held at the TTU Museum)
October 5-8 Workshop with David Smith was canceled so we will hold a regular meeting on October 18th instead.
October 18, 2020 program by Tim Oliver (landscapes)
November 15, 2020 program by Jo Beth Gilliam (Watercolor on Canvas)
December Christmas Party
January 17, 2021 program by Nathalie Kelley (layering)
February 21, 2021 program by Neal Kleman (graphite pencil and Africa)
March 21, 2021 program by Karla Bennett DeLoach (encaustic and mixed media)
April 2021: Arts Festival

I have offered to make videos for anyone doing a program. In case we have to cancel a program, the videos will be posted online.

Our September presenter is Kathryn Thomas.

Kathryn began her artistic development in the fall of 2008 after retiring from a career in healthcare.  She is largely self-taught through individual study, workshops, and trial and error.  Her primary mediums are watercolor, acrylic, and pastel.  She loves COLOR and paints in an impressionist or representational style in a varied subject matter.

Kathryn will tell you, "I enjoy interacting with fellow artists and coming away with pearls of new information that can help me improve my art."

Kathryn is the current President of the West Texas Watercolor Society.
She just finished a solo exhibition:

2020 "I.LOVE.COLOR.  The Art of Kathryn Thomas" Solo Show
June 5 - July 19, Buddy Holly Center, Lubbock, TX.

Her presentation on September 20th is titled: Color Rich Animals on Canvas.
We will meet at the Texas Tech Museum for her presentation.

WTWS WEBSITE MEMBER GALLERY

Aaron is working on updating the member gallery on the WTWS website. Each artist may submit 3 to 4 watermarked jpeg images. Aaron will resize them as needed to fit the space. Email your images to wtws@wtws.org
Do you have art supplies that you are not using and you would like to get rid of? Please consider donating them to the Guadalupe Community Center. The donations can be brought anytime we have a membership meeting or event. We've been doing this all along but most of our members don't know about it.

Our Mission
