Upcoming CMS University seminars offer keys to excellence in musicianship
Chicago Master Singers (CMS) University’s online seminars over the next three weeks will cover the basics of music theory with a focus on practical applications. Each will explore one of the three key components of music: melody on Tuesday, September 8; rhythm on Monday, September 14; and harmony on Monday, September 21. Please note that next week’s seminar is on Tuesday.
Dr. John Hughes, CMS Music Director, will share tips on how to understand these elements and apply them to improve your own music-making. He will also draw on examples from choral repertoire.
The seminars will be streamed live starting at 7:00 pm Central time. Attending the live event lets you ask questions and interact with other participants. But if you miss the live event, you can access the recording later on YouTube.
Although these seminars are free, registration is required so that we can send you a link to each event. You may find it helpful to see Dr. Hughes’s quick overview of the registration process first, at How to Register. If you experience any difficulty in registering, please contact us at info@chicagomastersingers.org. We will be happy to help you.
The weekly seminars will continue through November, featuring a fascinating lineup of musical topics led by Dr. Hughes. The complete seminar schedule is shown below. Register for as many as you like. There is no charge, but donations are always gratefully accepted.
