HELP EXPAND SC MEDICAID PROGRAM
Do you believe access to healthcare is a right? If so, join the SJC as we team up with the Unitarian Church in Charleston to help expand the Medicaid Program in SC. This pandemic has shown how critical of a state issue it is.

The Unitarian Church in Charleston will present an online forum on Sunday, September 20 at 10 AM. You’ll learn how Medicaid works, who is left out of the system and how Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act would address that dire need. This is a racial justice issue that needs to be addressed. Link to the forum will be posted one week before the event.

VOTER REGISTRATION
Go to SCVOTES.GOV to register or change your address. You must be registered 30 days before the November 3 election. Takes 5 minutes to check your status.

POLL WORKERS NEEDED
Paid positions now available in Greenville County. Receive COVID-19 training and PPE. Apply here: https://www.scvotes.gov/poll-manager-information

RENTERS’ ASSISTANCE
The CDC moratorium expires in December and is pegged to a health finding, not economic distress. It may be challenged in courts. Congress needs to couple the moratorium with $100bn in renters' assistance as rent is still due during the moratorium. The moratorium also doesn’t include a renters' aid package. So this ask remains urgent despite the CDC relief. Write a letter to the editor at RESULTS Action Center. There you’ll find a letter template and background info. (We’ll even submit your letter for you.) Be sure to add a "hook" such as the recent national conventions.

News from the Volunteer Coordinator

Since we cannot yet meet in person … Are you yearning for more UU connection?  Activity that connects with our principles? that feeds your soul?  GUUF’s staff and committees are steadfastly at work during this pandemic, and could use your help and creativity!  Check out GUUF's Volunteer Opportunities which details how different committees work to keep our Fellowship vibrant. Some tasks may be slightly different due to distancing and virtual needs, but it's a great starting point.

What interests you?  What do you enjoy doing?  What looks fun and purposeful? Kindly CLICK HERE for a brief form where you can indicate your interests.  Please give it some thought, add a few words, complete some checkmarks, and submit.  Lynn Bell, Volunteer Coordinator, will be in touch to make connections between you and your interests.

Even though apart, we can still feel part of a larger whole.

COMMUNITY CARING
Joys & Sorrows
9/6/2020

Linda Molnar - My grandson, Michael Molnar who thankfully attended our GUUF preschool in Ms. Jackie's class, has been hired on with TD Bank to do the job he has been doing for the past six months as a temp. Not bad for a kid with ADHD/LD/Special Ed label. I'm so proud of his achievements and very grateful for those who helped lift him up.❤️

Dana Couillard will have gastro sleeve surgery on Tuesday. Cards would be greatly appreciated - 402 McCrary Court, Simpsonville 29681

If you would like to submit a candle of Joy or Sorrow to be lit during the Sunday service, click here.

Submissions received after Noon on Saturdays may not be shared until next week.
