From the Rector

Greetings,

Back in March of this year, I recall making jokes about not being sure what day of the week it is. Somewhere along the way I have had actually had to check and remind myself what day it is and what comes next. We all need things that ground us and orient us along the way. This is only highlighted by this intense disruption on global, national, and personal levels.

The Episcopal Church and our Presiding Bishop, The Most Rev. Michael Curry, have been promoting The Way of Love. You may have seen some brochures at St. James about that. The Way of Love calls us to a pattern of living: Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest. I encourage you to take a look at The Way of Love website. I see this pattern as a way to ground ourselves in this times of uncertainty.

Most of us practice a few of these things well. I am grateful for your generosity in blessing the ministries of St. James with your prayers, money, and time. Your commitment to pray and study together encourages me. I know that such things give us strength in our faith. I again want to encourage you consider these and other practices outlined in The Way of Love. Look for some virtual opportunities to discuss The Way of Love in the weeks to come.

There are many opportunities listed in this email for you also to consider. Act now to register to be part of our Neighbor Day auction. Also, consider who you might want to nominate for vestry and let me. You might not believe me on this next one. If you just need to talk and pray with someone, please reach out. I would be glad to be as present as we can be in these times.

Peace,
John Mark

Church Office. For the immediate future, the office continues to be closed. Emails are checked throughout the day, so please feel free to reach out. As always, in the event of a pastoral emergency, you may call the church office, 865-523-5687, select Option 4.

Please note: In the interest of keeping everyone safe and healthy:
  •  FACE MASKS are required when you are in the church buildings and
  • Everyone must SIGN IN when entering the building.
Wheelchairs are needed at the church. We like to have 3-4 wheelchairs in the nave and one in the office/education building, in case of emergencies. Somehow, our supply has dwindled. If you have a wheelchair or small transport that’s not in use, please consider allowing the church to use it. Please contact Marilyn, 865-523-5687, mcanady@stjamesknox.org.

Forward Day by Day for August-October are available. Please send an email to Marilyn, mcanady@stjamesknox.org, if you’d like a booklet mailed to you. You may also go to www.forwardmovement.org and click on Forward Day by Day, Today’s Meditation.

Memorial Garden. If you would like to visit the St. James Memorial Garden, please let contact the church office at office@stjamesknox.org. A parishioner has volunteered to meet you there to open the gate.
