Police Updates
Schools Open! - Schools are opening across the area in the coming weeks. Please be vigilant of increased pedestrian traffic in and around schools and children waiting at bus stops. Allow for more time for your commute if it is during school bus pick up/drop off times. Please use extreme caution when dropping off or picking up your children at school. There will be new traffic patterns in place at certain schools, as well as drop-off and pick-up procedures. Please look out for additional information from the schools.

Practice Makes Perfect - Get into a 9 PM Routine each night. At that time, remember to remove all valuables and keys from your vehicles, including vehicles in your garage, and keep them locked. Also, secure your residence, including doors and windows in garages.

Respect Your Neighbor's Opinions - The removal or defacing of campaign signs is ILLEGAL! Anyone caught removing or defacing a campaign sign on someone else’s property is subject to arrest. There has been an uptick in incidents across the township, and it is unacceptable. If you see anyone stealing or defacing a sign, please report it immediately to the township police department non-emergency number 973-543-2581. You can report it anonymously,  if you wish.
Visit the police department Webpage.

Historic Hike - On Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m., join local historian, author and lecturer W. Barry Thomson for a hike showcasing the rich and complex history of what is now the Schiff Nature Preserve. In 1932, following Richard Williams' death, the "Brookrace" estate was transformed into the Mortimer L. Schiff Scout Reservation, which, for the next 47 years, served as the National Training Center for the Boy Scouts of America. Advance registration is required. Member fee is $35. Member family/four fee is $120. Non-member fee is $40. The non-member family/four fee is $140. Space is limited for this event. Social distancing and face coverings are required. Purchase tickets.

Volunteer Spotlight: Ralston Engine Company #1

Founded in 1942, the Ralston Engine Company #1 is located on the west side of the township. They are always looking for new members, like Ian Baio, a recent graduate of the Morris County Fire Academy Fire Fighter 1 program. Baio spent several intense weeks of his summer in the daytime program to earn his New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Certification. The course includes midterm and final exams that are both written and practical demonstrations of knowledge and skills. Welcome to the Interior firefighting team!

This Fall, Ralston firefighters will be taking refresher Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) classes with the Mendham Township First Aid Squad. These classes will hone their skills with the new AED’s provided on all responding Ralston Engine Company #1 fire apparatus, purchased with funds authorized by the Township Committee. Look for more information from Ralston Engine Company #1, including a new social media platform this month. Meanwhile, visit the Ralston Engine Company's Website  to learn more. (Photo by Mike Yamashita)
