At a time when so many children around the world are under lockdowns, we praise God that students in Canada will soon be heading back to school. We pray for confidence, health, and success for every student and wisdom for parents, teachers, and administrators during a start to the school year like no other.

We also pray for those whose learning has been interrupted. May God open a way for them to continue their education. As we advocate for every child, everywhere, to attend school, may our efforts be blessed. May each child fulfill their potential.

ADRA supporters are like family – sharing a common bond and hoping for a better world. We ask that you pray particularly for the gravely ill son and wife of one of our supporters. We ask that you uphold him and his family to God as we ask for healing, peace, and hope. May their faith be strong. May healing come quickly. May they be surrounded by love.

Food banks across Canada are struggling to meet the increasing needs in their communities caused by COVID-19. We pray for them and their volunteers as they source and distribute food and other items to help Canadians in their time of need. And we thank God for the opportunity ADRA has been given to support the work of food banks across the county. May each heart be touched by the love of God as they see their needs being met.

Hurricane Laura battered the Louisiana coast last week and 400,000 people are facing weeks without power. Typhoons have hit the Koreas, while Hurricane Nana struck Belize. Please pray for the safety of those affected by these disasters and that God may pave the way for a quick and effective response as people rebuild their homes and lives. Please also pray the the hurricane season will not be destructive and that lives will not be lost or disrupted.

Please continue to pray the people of Beirut, as many thousands remain homeless following last month’s devastating explosion. We ask too that God may continue to provide for and protect the ADRA teams on the ground as they support both emergency personnel and those affected. The road to recovery will be long and there is much work to do. Please pray that we will be blessed with wisdom as we make medium and long term plans to help those affected. Please pray that the proposals being submitted to funders around the world will meet with success. May God bring hope.

In the past few weeks flooding has killed hundreds and left thousands of people homeless in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Yemen. Many people in these countries are struggling under the weight of poverty – a disadvantage that will only be made worse by these disasters. We earnestly pray that God’s hand of protection be over the region as people recover amongst the threat of COVID-19.

Wildfires in California have forced thousands of people to flee their homes. Many still do not know when they will be able to return – or if they will even have a home to return to. We ask God that He brings comfort to those affected and safety to the hundreds of men and women who continue to fight the fires.

In August, a powerful earthquake struck the province of Masbate in the Philippines. Homes and buildings were destroyed and sadly lives were lost. Please pray for the evacuees as they are forced to shelter in tents while also maintaining physical distancing. May God also be with the ADRA team in the Philippines as they respond to meet people’s most urgent needs.
