This week's focus

At Coro, we seek to be a people focused on Jesus; worshipping God, building one another up, enacting God's justice and proclaiming the good news of Jesus to the world.

After church on Sunday 25 October we will have our Congregational Meeting (AGM) where we will provide an update on various aspects of our life together as a church family as well as seek to elect four elders to help us prayerfully work towards our vision. Three of our current elders have retired since our last election; they are Loki Ingham and in recent weeks both Norm Tucker and Cat Patrick. We are therefore looking to Lord for people to join Wes Chambers, Jenny Wichert, Sam Cheesman and Simon Dent in our elders leadership team over the next season of our church. Please pray and consider who the Lord is calling to this role.

We will also be electing a new Congregation Chairperson. As many of you would know Rick & Vicki Seaman are moving to Victor Harbor at the end of October. We'll have an opportunity to farewell them in the coming weeks.

Practicalities:
  • More information, including a process of nomination will be emailed this weekend with a few printed copies available at the Welcome Desk.
  • We will be providing live stream options and remote voting for those who are unable to be physically present.
  • You must be a member of CoroUniting in order to vote. If you would like to vote and are not a member, see here for more information.
In Christian hope and service.

Last week Simon mentioned that we will be taking up a love offering for a refugee couple Mat & Marie on Sunday. Here is more information about them and their current situation including how to give.
See the postcard 'Love Offering for Mat & Marie'

Cloud migration

This week we began a major upgrade of our IT, as we migrated the church email system to G Suite (an integrated suite of secure, cloud-native collaboration and productivity apps powered by Google AI, including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Meet and more).

Huge thanks to Adi Francis and the team at usingtechnologybetter who are providing their expertise free of charge.

At this stage we have created new email accounts and are starting to use these. Over the next short while we will be moving across all emails, calendars, contacts as well as all our server files. This is a huge job and we ask for patience as we get used to these new systems.

David is drawing on his IT background and managing the migration from the church's end. As a result, there will be times when he is not able to respond as quickly to requests as he might normally. Thank you for your understanding!

Sunday morning worship

10.00am Sunday 6 September

In our message this week, Simon finishes our series Good Different (Living as a Christian in a non Christian World) unpacking chapters 5-8 of Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth (1 Corinthians).

Happy Fathers Day!

Wishing dads, young and old, a day of being cherished and remembering the precious gifts your children are on Father's Day - and all days!

Please join us after the service for some COVID-safe party pies and sausage rolls in the grassed area by the chapel (max 28 people - so feel free to take one and move elsewhere). We'll have chairs set out and free coffee too as well as some fun activities for the kids.
Life Group Bible Studies
prepared by Graham Buxton

Thanks to Graham for these Life Group Bible Studies - there's an introduction and then short and helpful studies with questions for this whole series. Copies available at church this weekend or click the image or link to download.

Download the Bible Studies from the previous series (Fool's Gold:1 Corinthians 1-4) here.

COVID Marshals

Some of you may be aware of the recent requirement from the State Government to introduce 'COVID Marshals' - this includes places of worship.

For further information check out this New Times article and this letter from Felicity Avery, our General Secretary.

The move has been “determined as an effective measure to ensure people’s compliance with physical distancing and hygiene requirements”.

In the light of this, we would like to clarify the following when attending church for any activity (including worship services, youth group, mainly music, leadership meetings etc):
  • Please ensure that you practice good hygiene, including regularly washing your hands or using the hand sanitiser provided
  • Please ensure that wherever possible you maintain 1½m distance between yourself and anyone who is not someone you regularly associate with (see clarification below). This includes when seated (please leave 2 empty chairs).
  • Please do not ask sit with anyone who you do not regularly associate with (see below) even if you are both comfortable with this. Please leave two clear chairs instead.
  • We understand that keeping this physical distancing is going to be near impossible with young children!
Clarification: Under the current laws (Emergency Management (Public Activities No 7) (COVID-19) Direction 2020) physical distancing is required between all people unless they "live in the same household, or are friends, family members or people who otherwise regularly associate with each other" (Section 9(3)). The advice we have received is that 'regularly associating with each other' means several times a week, eg. at school or work.

Family News & Updates

Looking for a new name

LPC, Kindy Kids and KBG

We have merged LPC and Kindy Kids during this season and are looking for a new name for this combined Sunday morning ministry. We're also after a new name for KBG.

We've had some great ideas from the team and are looking to open this up to the wider church family before making a decision...
Let us know your idea for a new name!

Update from Scott & Rachael

Last week we farewelled Scott & Rachael Litchfield as they enter into another new chapter and continue to rely on God to provide for and equip them for this next adventure.

Rachael is now serving half time as a mission partner with Interserve in a new role as well as offering spiritual direction more broadly.

Scott will soon start in a half time role as the minister at Bridgewater Uniting Church.

You can check out some updates and more information about Scott & Rachael's roles (including endorsement and support forms for Rachael) here - for privacy reasons this is restricted to those who call CoroUniting home.

Please continue to pray for both Scott & Rachael as they move into this new phase in their ministry.

Sue on leave

Sue is now on Annual Leave for two weeks, returning to work on Monday 7 September.

Throughout this time the Office will remain open, however we will not necessarily be keeping the usual office hours (10am-1pm Mon-Thu). Feel free to contact one of the staff to check the office is open if you need to pop in.

Live stream privacy

Just a note to say that the front left (baptistry) side of the church will occasionally feature in our live stream and YouTube recordings of services (see photo). If you would prefer for your family not to be filmed, we would encourage you to sit on the other (piano) side or anywhere else.

Assembly and Synod updates

Assembly is the national body of the Uniting Church. Assembly General Secretary Colleen Geyer is inviting church members to take part in a brief survey on the Church Regulations as part of an overall review.
Synod Strategic Planning: We invite you to have your say. In 2020 the Uniting Church Synod of SA has embarked on a journey to identify its key missional priorities and direction (Strategic Plan) for the next 3-5 years. Read more here and complete the survey here.

Rosters - an update coming very soon...

Some folk may be wondering about what's happening with rosters... well... we're changing the way we do things in more ways than one during this time of transition.

We've created a new rostering system based on a team model - this has been tested by the roster coordinators and will be emailed out this weekend.

Thank you for your support as we put new systems in place... here's a sneak peak...
