September is Tourism Month and we encourage our stakeholders to be involved in various initiatives that are underway.

1. Tourism Month
As Visit Knysna, we have a number of activations on the go:
  • Kids Stay Free and Promotions / Specials: Please continue to share these offerings with us in order to ensure that your specials are promoted through the Wesgro “we’re open” campaign platforms.
  • Jerusalema dance challenge:  as per our previous newsletter, please remember to share your dance footage with us.  Email your link to events@visitknysna.co.za
  • Spring Clean Greater Knysna 2020 Edition – with Ocean Odyssey: Join in with or make a team to assist with cleaning up our beaches, estuary, town, forests and even the pavement outside your house! At the end of the day all litter ends up in our precious ocean and we need to come together and raise awareness and keep our oceans clean! Join by contacting Terry at Ocean Odyssey on 044 382 0321 / marketing@oceanodyssey.co.za .
  • Visit Knysna Photo Challenge: This has launched and details will be on our website from Friday, 4 September 2020.  Additional promotions will done through various media platforms.  Please encourage your visitors, family and friends to participate: collectively, we would like to stimulate awareness of what all the greater Knysna area has to offer whilst uncovering some hidden gems.
  • Per the press release shared herewith, the Western Cape Ministry are also encouraging businesses to get involved and share photos with a number of hashtags that they have included.  Read more here
  • Pink Loerie “Tickle Me Pink for Tourism” campaign:  in our previous newsletter, we introduced this campaign.  Please read their press release for further information and details on sharing your offerings for their promotion. Read more here

2. WTTC Safe Travel Stamp
Through Wesgro, the Western Cape has been awarded the rights to utilise the WTTC Safe Travel stamp.  The intention is to subtly promote that we are a safe destination whilst ensuring that all protocols are in place.  Please see the press release linked here and should you, as a product, wish to utilise the stamp for your facility and promotional material, please liaise with Inge@wesgro.co.za.   Read more here

3. Interactive Street Art
In line with the Knynsa Municipality’s approved Destination Management Plan, we are working with the Knysna Art Society to develop interactive street art.  The intention is that these pieces will be permanent, promote the destination and tourist spread whilst resonating with a theme of the greater Knysna areas assets.  The closing date is Monday, 14 September for proposal submissions to be made to the art society.   Please see the Call for proposals and project brief

4. SAT UK – retraction of request for content
Further to the email shared in our previous newsletter, the SAT UK office have subsequently retracted their request for content.  Please see their communication.  Read more here

5. SAB Foundation: Tholoana Enterprise Programme
We have been requested to share the following information pertaining to the request for applications to the SAB Foundation business support programme.  Please note the criteria and if you qualify, respond directly as per directions. Read more here

In closing:
  • A reminder that we continuously update the local restaurant list and it is uploaded to our website and Facebook.  Please keep our office informed of your updates and changes as they unfold:  email to info@visitknysna.co.za.
  • Click here for a suggested activities list.  Details of these activities are listed on the maps that are available for your distribution to your guests: please collect a stock of these maps to distribute from your facility.

Take care, stay safe and stay healthy.
