We are getting ready to hold Durham's first in-person worship service since March! We will hold an outdoor service of Holy Eucharist on Sunday morning, September 27th at 10:30AM in the space outside the church bell tower. There will no Zoom worship that morning, but a video of the outdoor service will (God willing) be posted online promptly for those who are not able to join us in person.
Here's what you need to know about the service:
- Preregistration is required, and attendance is capped at 50 people.
- Masks must be worn and social distance maintained.
- Upon arrival you will check in at a Welcome Station, answer a few health questions, and be directed to designated seating areas, with each household seating area separated from others by at least 6 feet.
- It is a Bring Your Own Chair event; (also, sanitizer, water, bug spray, sunscreen, etc.)
- You are encouraged to bring a small percussion instrument (tambourine, triangle, wood blocks...) with which to respond in the liturgy, as there will be no singing. (You can always bring your hands and just clap!)
- Attendees will be notified of any weather-related cancellation by 7:30AM.
How to register:
Registration involves filling out two forms: a registration/contact form (to be used in the event that we get exposed to The Virus), and a Regathering Covenant affirming your compliance with safety precautions and relating them to our Baptismal Covenant. We must have these forms on file BEFORE you arrive for the service. Once the church has your Regathering Covenant on file, you won't have to fill out another one to attend more services at Durham.
- The Covenant is available by clicking here. Please download it, sign it, and return it to christchurchdurhamparish@gmail.com, either as a scan, a PDF, or a photograph. If you are not able to do any of those things, you may mail a paper copy to the church. If you are not able to print it out, please email the church office or leave a voicemail on 301-743-7099 to request a paper copy to be mailed to you.

Yes, it will feel 'weird.' But Christ shows up in some unlikely ways and places, and we can do this!
