MBC engaged with its first nonprofit organization, Council on Legal Education Opportunity, to provide communications support. This was especially touching because our Principal, Melanie E. Bates, is an alumna of the program

MBC became a Certified Business Enterprise

January 12, 2018
MBC engaged with its first government agency, Corrections Information Council, to provide communications and legislative support.
 

January 29, 2018
MBC participated in its first press interview via The Nation regarding language discrimination within the criminal justice system.

June 24, 2018
Our Principal, Melanie E. Bates, participated in her first radio interview via WPGC 95.5 to discuss her journey to become a business owner. 

July 2, 2018
MBC participated in its first on-camera interview via FOX 5 regarding knowing your rights during encounters with law enforcement.



September 10, 2018
MBC launched its first advertising campaign at the McPherson Square Metro Station. 

In our second year...

September 21, 2018
MBC was 
acknowledged by the Women's Business Center as a 2018 Just Ambitious Small Business Womanpreneur Under 40. 



October 30, 2018
MBC became 
certified as a Local Disadvantaged Business Enterprise with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, a Women Owned Small Business, and a Women’s Business Enterprise. 

October 31, 2018
MBC 
conducted its first Empowerment Session at D.C. Department of Corrections.
 

December 6, 2018
MBC 
became certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise/Small Business Enterprise with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the District Department of Transportation. 

March 6, 2019
MBC conducted a Know Your Rights training for the Ronald Harmon Brown College Preparatory All-Male High School Empowering Males of Color Program.

March 21, 2019
MBC conducted legislative training for Community Family Life Services.

communications training for the Reentry Action Network.

In our third year...

MBC expands its business to include development as a component of its service offerings.

Our Principal, Melanie E. Bates, served as a panelist for 'Incarcerated in Crisis: Criminal Justice Reform in the Wake of COVID-19' presented by the Washington Bar Association.

June 17, 2020
MBC 
participated in its first podcast interview via Checkbox Outreach regarding the critical need for criminal justice reform.

July 17, 2020
Our Principal, Melanie E. Bates, served as a panelist for a screening of the film 'Clemency' by the Vera Institute of Justice.

The Council for the District of Columbia unanimously passed the "Melanie Bates Consulting, LLC (MBC) 3rd Year Anniversary Recognition Resolution of 2020."
