Springfield School

11 September 2020

Kia Ora Koutou,

This week saw us coming together in support of the Child Cancer Society with our Wig Wednesday. We had a great turn out of wild and wacky wigs on the day and raised $80.10 thanks to your generous support.

In a ‘totally slipped my mind’ moment, I forgot to make mention that we have Rebecca Henderson working with us 4 days a week as our new Teacher Aide. Welcome to the team Rebecca.  The staff appreciate all that you do and the children love having you around!

This week we welcomed Oscar Walker to school. Oscar has his older sister, Zoe in Kōhanga. We look forward to getting to know you after seeing you around the school so often as a preschooler!

Yesterday two teams from Springfield School participated in the Malvern Cantamaths competition held at the Glentunnel Community Hall.  Congratulations to Alyssa, Izzy, Dylan and Sol who placed second equal with Hororata School.  Zac, Sean, Georgia and Pippa placed 3rd equal with Darfield Primary School.

Many of you have already returned your slips for our upcoming Cultural Day. We are just waiting on a few more as we busy ourselves with preparations for the day.
If you have misplaced your slip letting us know which country your child will be representing, you can message in to the office and Kylie will add the details to our list.

Enjoy this week’s ‘Around the School’ learning and we can’t wait to see you all soon at our Celebration Open Day!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Arohanui,

Keri Steele
Principal

****AROUND THE SCHOOL****

Taking spring as our inspiration, students in Ruru have crafted several types of poems over the last couple of weeks. These can be found on display in our classroom.

Here are two of the poems written by some of our students:

"Spring" by Cameron Yaxley

Super fun sports with my siblings
Pollen on blooming flowers
Rain and sun makes colourful rainbows
Imagination going wild when Dylan is over
Nature is everywhere as I drive through the farm
Green land is all around me as I play in the land

"Spring" by Maia Wakefield

Spring
Two trees
Three little lambs
Four jumping little bunnies
Five pink tiny quiet piglets
Six little calves resting quietly
Seven small carrot plants in a row
Eight small plants in a neat row
Nine little lettuce plants all in a row
Ten big trees all sitting in a row together

Kohanga have been busy this week! We worked together to create a collaborative artwork. Each person coloured a piece of the picture, then we put it together to create a very bright bumblebee. It's very big and looks great on our wall; check out the scale with the boys beside it!

We also went on a BUG HUNT! Lots of interesting specimens were found around the school, including slugs, slaters, spiders, centipedes and worms! We all enjoyed looking at the minibeasts under the magnifying glasses, before returning them to their homes outside.

Some magnificent writing from  Piwakawaka.

I have a red wig. It is big and it is bright and puffy.
By William

On Wheelie Wednesday it was Wig Day. I like my pink and purple and blue wig because it is pretty.
By Jasmine

On Wig Day I wore my wig. It was buns. They were itchy but I still wore my wig.
By Issy

Today is Wig Wednesday. I have a black wig. It is puffy.

Defibrillator

There is a defibrillator at the Canterbury Gliding club airfield at Russels Flat.
It can be found on the West side of the control building next to the big hanger. It is in a white cabinet.
