School Value for Term 3
Mana Whakahaere/Responsibility

Kia ora koutou,

This has been another very interesting term, with the second lockdown again breaking up the rhythm of normal schooling.  We have missed our assemblies and whole school gatherings as well as our winter sport.  There has been a sense of urgency with our teachers hard at work trying to catch up and also helping students who have not coped too well with their online learning. My thanks to all the staff for their efforts and to all the parents who supported their children during the lockdown.  We look forward to Term 4 and the possibility of moving into Alert Level 1.

Next term, Rooms 5-8 will be moving back into their newly refurbished classrooms. Thank you to the teachers and students for doing such a great job in the school hall during the refurb and for making the teaching spaces work for everyone.

We will be adding an office onto the Sunroom in the coming days which will give Mrs Dunn a little more room to carry out her duties and her role as our learning support coordinator.

The Centenary Committee has been hard at work preparing for next year's celebration. If you are a past pupil or have had any other affiliations with the school and would like to be part of the celebrations, please register your interest through our website page as it promises to be a wonderful weekend of activities https://www.waimauku.school.nz/centenary

If you are taking a break, please keep safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school next term (roll on daylight saving this weekend).

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield

Centenary

The Waimauku School Centenary Book committee is putting together a book to celebrate 100 years of our School.  We are seeking submissions of writing, photos, and documents for our book.  We would love to see artefacts such as previous reports if you would be happy for them to be included.  We are looking for writing that covers the history of the area and the school, as well as anecdotes or memories about past pupil’s time at school.  We would also be interested in hearing about significant achievements of our past pupils that could be mentioned in the book.

If you are interested in submitting an article or file sharing your memories or knowledge of the school please send it to jenni.supeck@waimauku.school.nz with ‘Centenary Book’ as the subject heading.  Hard copies may be forwarded to the school office marked ‘Attention: Jenni Supeck.’  Submissions should be received no later than Sunday 18th October.

Please be aware that it may not be possible to include all submissions due to space constraints.

We are also looking for families who have three or more generations of pupils who have attended Waimauku School - if this is your family please let us know.

Kind regards,

Maggie, Emma, Lexi, Kaiya, and Maya.

PTA
Hello families!  We are ALL sad that the wonderful day of Ag Day fun and festivities the PTA was in the throes of planning has been cancelled!  However, with some ‘core’ AG Day activities still planned, we know our kids are looking forward to what is always a special day for the students of Waimauku School, and something unique to our rural community.

Down on the back field, the Young Farmer competition will be held.  There will be a sausage sizzle for the kids during the competition.  Good luck to all of the entrants!

We want to say again, a BIG thank you, to the families who have already given so generously of their time, and/or supported the school’s fundraising efforts by donating items, services and vouchers from their businesses.  We genuinely appreciate it.

Save the date – School Disco will be held on Friday 13th November (theme TBC).

Calendar Art - Christmas is just around the corner (yikes – already??) so keep an eye out for your little darlings priceless work of art they are creating for their Calendar Art.  You will be able to purchase the calendars etc. online next term.   They make great Christmas pressies!

Our online option is also available -
This is a term long course for children aged 6 - 13 that teaches visual arts skills and encourages creative thinking.
It's very much structured in the same way as their popular after school classes, with instructional teaching videos presented by Mandy (CEO), and fun art projects that can be completed at home.

We are looking for a few new recruits to the
Waimauku School Year 4-6 Flippaball Team!

Flippaball is a really fun game played in a pool, and it follows the basic rules of water polo, but played in a shallow pool where the kids can touch the bottom. No prior experience is needed and the rules are very simple and quickly learned. The team currently consists of a dedicated group of year 5's and 6's, but keen year 4's can also join.

TRAINING: In the school pool before school on Fridays.

GAMES: Sunday afternoons/early evenings at AUT Millenium in Rosedale. There are always a number of parents heading over with their kids (as the games are quite exciting to watch), so it's easy to get a lift for your child if needed. Games are 20 minutes with 20 minutes each side for a team talk. Games usually run for 8-9 weeks in term time.

FEES: $70 per term. Enrolment of the team is on a term by term basis, and we decide each time who wants to play before committing to the next term.

GEAR: normal togs are worn, everything else is supplied.

CONTACT: Please contact Angela O'Brien if you are interested or would like more information, either at bruceangela@hotmail.com  or on 021 1105 725. We do only have a few spots so if we get more people interested than there are places, we will have to prioritise by those who asked first.  Please note that children have to move up to waterpolo in Year 7, so any current Year 6's joining would only get one term of play (it would be a good warm up if they are interested in moving on to water polo however).
Waimauku Lions hope to have a large Garage Sale on
Saturday 7 November.   Do you have any items that you would like to give your local Lions Club to sell?  We are fundraising for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.  Any good items welcome including books, sale-able furniture (no lounge suites), crockery or onraments etc.  (No old TVs or whiteware please).  Please phone 09 411 7714 or 09 4117043 for more inforamtion.

Thank you to those parents who have nominated our school when purchasing bulk fuel deliveries from Northfuels. For every 100 litres of fuel purchased, 50c is donated to our school, which can go towards sponsorship funds for a sports equipment package or a technology package.  We would appreciate any other parents nominating our school too if they also purchase from Northfuel. For more information, please visit
www.northfuels.co.nz or call 0800 4 THE KIDS  (0800 484 3543). Many thanks for supporting Waimauku School!
