"We know this year has been difficult on everyone, and many of your members may be physically separated from campus and each other. See the Zone Meeting as an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the greater physics community in New England. And, if you are fortunate enough to be studying on campus, look to the Zone Meeting to network and forge connections with other chapters!
We have an exciting itinerary planned, and, since it’s being hosted virtually, members can attend whichever events they’d like. The theme of the Zone Meeting is what physicists can do outside of research to impact the greater community.
-
Our keynote speaker will be Brown University’s Professor Jim Gates: theoretical theorist, former advisor to President Barack Obama, published science novelist, and former president of the National Society of Black Physicists.
-
The classic Zone Meeting event is back: Undergraduate research presentations. Gain presentation experience and share your research with all of New England!
-
Meet students from other chapters and workshop common issues during the chapter discussion.
-
Professors from Brown and Yale Universities will form a panel to discuss and field questions on diversity, inclusion, and advocacy in physics.
In addition, there will be an opening bad physics movie night social on Friday, October 23, and a closing virtual coffee hour at the end of the day on Saturday." -Brown & Yale SPS
