Sharing Why Working Within the Recovery Field Is Important

"I've worked in various fields within health and human services for a long time because i've always wanted to help people overcome their
challenges and live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.
But addiction and recovery are deeply personal to me.

I know that recovery is possible, and what's possible for people in recovery. I believe that people in recovery, culturally, have an extraordinary drive and capacity to give back and pay it forward, and a desire to serve something larger than themselves. That's something I believe our communities and our society need.

I have also seen what happens when people aren't able or aren't afforded the opportunities to achieve and sustain recovery. I started doing what I do because of the people in my life who have made it to recovery, who were given the chance and made the most of it, as well as those who didn't make it.

But what motivates me is the belief that we can create a better community that helps foster healing and recovery, and in doing so we will help people with untold potential who will in turn help us create an even better, more prosperous and healthy community. I know that every person who achieves recovery is a living, breathing fulfillment of the promise that every person has within them, no matter what they have been through, no matter their struggles.
Every person is a carrier of the torch we call hope".
