Columbia Land Trust works with a local dairy to harvest crops while preparing for the arrival of sandhill cranes

As the crisp fall season makes its way through the Northwest, Columbia Land Trust prepares for the arrival of an abundance of sandhill cranes to its experimental farmed crops in the Vancouver Lake Lowlands, a site also known as Cranes’ Landing. The Land Trust has been farming the property every year since the Port of Vancouver donated the 527-acre property in 2016. Over 400 acres of various crops have been planted, attracting the cranes in record numbers. The cranes have adapted to these fields for staging and feeding making the area a major pitstop and wintering ground along the Pacific Flyway.

Northwest conservationists came together virtually to celebrate our resilient nature and raise crucial funds

Nature's resiliency took center stage on Thursday, October 1st, as we hosted our annual Wild Splendor gala, virtually. Nearly 500 supporters from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond came together to view our livestreamed Wild Splendor program and raised over $250,000 in support of the nature of the Northwest. Thank you to our supporters, staff, board, and sponsors for making the night a success, and for leading the way in protecting the lands, waters, and wildlife we love most. Did You Know?

Marbled murrelets were officially listed as an endangered species in Oregon in February 2018. They are small, with short tail feathers, and pointed wings. Marbled murrelets hang out on the coast and are difficult to spot. Columbia Land Trust has conserved over 1,600 acres of tidal wetlands and old growth forests along the Long Beach Peninsula & Willapa Bay in hopes that the small populations left will find safety in these protected areas. Learn more about our work on the coast!
