🎒  September in Harrogate & Knaresborough 📚

Back to school...the kids have gone back and some sort of routine has been set in motion. How are you all doing? Do you a) run out of the school gate at drop off with a big grin on your face, looking forward to a few hours of peace (even if it means you are back at work) or b) miss your mini-mumbler sidekicks and run to collect them as you have missed them all day? Or a bit of both a & b?

Can you believe that this time last year we were in the thick of the UCI Road World Championships in Harrogate?!
This Autumn is certainly going to be different, but there is lots to look forward to doing, out and about or at home. We've got details below of activities before and during October Half Term such as Pick Your Own Pumpkins, Pumpkin Trails, Pumpkin Festivals, Halloween adventures and Trick or Treat alternatives. Scroll down to find out more.

It's also the time to be looking at schools for next year if your mini-mumbler/s are starting Primary School or Secondary School next September. We've got information on Open Days here if you need it and we will update it as more confirm.

It is with great regret that the organisers of the Charity Bonfire, Harrogate Round Table have announced that the 2020 Stray Bonfire will not go ahead.
Read more in our full blog here.

We have a page with details of events that will be taking place on or around Bonfire Night and will update it as more confirm. To find out more, click here.

We hope you have a wonderful September & October full of puddle jumping, hot chocolate drinking and 🎃 pumpkin picking!

Brimhams Fitness: OPEN

The Brimhams Fitness Centre at the Hydro in Harrogate is Open to members only. The pool is also open for adult lane swimming and family sessions. To swim, or to use the gym, you must pre-book in advance using this link; https://bit.ly/3jKtJek

Covid 19 update:
From 19th September the use of face coverings at our swimming pools and gyms is changing…Everybody aged 12-years-old and over, who enters any of our leisure centres or swimming pools, will need to wear a face covering in the communal areas.
For gym users this means wearing a face covering in the reception area, corridors and toilets. Face coverings are not required in the gym itself, but should be worn when leaving at the end of the session or if moving to a different part of the building.
Swimmers need to wear a face covering in the reception area, corridors, toilets and while they make their way to their allocated changing cubicle.
Face covering can then be left in your allocated locker before proceeding to the pool.

School’s Back!
Reflections on the Whole School return to School

Guest Blog from Emma Meadus, Head Teacher Coppice Valley Primary School.

There’s no doubt that this September’s return to school was different. Nerves and excitement are normal – parents, children and teachers included – but this year we were all a bit more anxious than usual because instead of it just being 6 weeks that we’d been away from school, for some children and staff it was more like 6 months. Plus, we’ve all had to learn new behaviours and ways of working around the virus. It’s a lot to deal with but deal with it we have. Onwards and upwards as they say!

The first thing that struck me about having all the children back in school is just how good it is to hear the whole school playing outside again (even if it is in socially distanced bubbles). There’s nothing quite like the sound of happy children playing together to stop you in your tracks and make you take stock of what matters. If I’m getting bogged down in my office with all the risk assessments, finances and hand-sanitiser orders, I’ve been going outside for a few minutes to listen to and watch the children play and remind myself what it’s really all about.

It’s still a bit weird though, to be honest. No assembly, no school dinners in the hall and worst of all no singing together. There’s lots of brilliant stuff going on in the class bubbles but that feeling of whole school-ness and community is still missing.
We’re doing our best to make up for it with virtual assemblies, emails and zoom chats but it can’t replace real face-to-face contact.
I look forward to the day we can be together properly as a school.....

Our caves are a little bit spooky anytime of year, but even more so over Halloween!
