My Wild and Precious Life Captivating Book on Africa and Precious' Early Years
Precious Project's cofounder, Dr. Susanne ('Susie') Rheault, has authored a book entitled My Wild and Precious Life: A Memoir of Africa. Among the fascinating stories of Africa that Susie tells is how she and her husband (Gil Williams) felt compelled to help the children in Nshupu, Tanzania, which led to their founding of Precious Project. They ultimately made the village their home and formed the foundation to accomplish their mission to eradicate poverty and illiteracy in the region. In the book, Susie opens up about their struggles, triumphs and lessons learned, in their unwavering commitment to improve the lives of Nshupu's next generation.
'With raw authenticity, My Wild and Precious Life sharesthe tough realities of living alongside families in desperate poverty, while highlighting the extraordinary warmth of the African people Susie and her colleagues have come to know. This is a story of people working together as they strive for a common goal, always persisting with hope.'(1)
In addition to first-hand stories about Precious from the field, Susie shares her very personal experiences as the daughter of a Green Beret, as well as being an advisor for the Clinton Foundation as they battled to end the AIDS epidemics in East and South Africa. Susie adds that she wrote the book with the hope to help readers 'jettison easy stereotypes about what life is like in parts of Africa and to gain compassion and understanding of the impact of extreme poverty."
