WORD
First Reading: Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32
Ezekiel challenges those who think they cannot change because of what their parents were and did, or who think they cannot reverse their own previous behavior. God insistently invites people to turn and live.

Psalm 25

Second Reading: Philippians 2:1-13
As part of a call for harmony rather than self-seeking, Paul uses a very early Christian hymn that extols the selflessness of Christ in his obedient death on the cross. Christ’s selfless perspective is to be the essential perspective we share as the foundation for Christian accord.

Alleluia Verse
Holy Gospel: Matthew 21:23-32

Sermon - Pastor Richard Rollefson
Song of the Day - O Master Let Me Walk with You - ELW 81

Affirmation of Faith
We belong to the Creator in whose image we are all made.
In God we are breathing, in God we are living, in God we share the life of all creation.

We belong to Jesus Christ, the true icon of God and of humanity.
In him God is breathing, in him God is living, through him we are reconciled.

We belong to the Holy Spirit, who gives us new life and strengthens our faith.
In the Spirit love is breathing, in the Spirit truth is living, the breath of God always moves us.

We belong to the Holy Trinity, who is one in all and Three-in-One.
In God we are all made, in Christ we are all saved, in the Spirit we are all united.

Adult Forum
Sunday, following worship

This Sunday, September 27Our series on Luther’s Small Catechism concludes with Luther’s comments on Holy Communion. Sherri Parkinson will lead the discussion.

Coming In October
A God’s Eye View of Government and Our Part in It

The ELCA Church Council has drafted a new Social Statement “Government and Civic Engagement in the United States: Discipleship in a Democracy” and is asking all congregations to read and discuss it before the November elections. It will be the subject of our Adult Forums for the first three Sundays in October. Since we are in a Zoom setting, it will be important to read the statement before the Adult Forums—just like doing on-line classes in schools these days. Click on the links below to view and/or download the schedule and the reading material.
Volunteers from Mt. Carmel prepare and serve a hot lunch for The People's Kitchen program at 40 Prado on the first Friday of each month. Here is a list of our volunteers for Friday, October 2:

Entree - Pat Forrest; Dave Lonsway; Rebecca Keisler; Janis Sexton; Kathy Towle; Jan Uder; Carol Winger
Salad - Karen Colombo; Kathy Meyer; Walt & Judy Bremer
Canned Fruit - Wende Dong; Jennifer Bobell
Milk - Julie Martin

Please contact Jan Uder, or the church office at info@mtcarmelslo.org if you are unable to serve this month, or if you would like information on volunteering in the future.

Matching Gifts Challenge Benefitting the SLO County Food Bank

Use this link to donate to the Mount Carmel matching funds challenge

If you prefer to donate to the matching funds challenge by check, make your check out to the SLO County Food Bank. Write Mt. Carmel Matching Funds Drive on the memo line so that your donation will be properly credited.  Mail to:

Food Bank Coalition of SLO County
1180 Kendall Road
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Please do not route your food bank donations through Mount Carmel.  Doing so will delay your donation and make tracking the matching funds challenge donations difficult for the food bank.

Thank you to Mount Carmel for your always generous spirit!
