Mitch Minken elected chair
of Curling Canada Board of Governors

Mitch Minken of Swift Current, Sask., will be at the helm of a new-look Board of Governors for Curling Canada.
Minken was elected Board Chair at Curling Canada’s Annual Meeting, which was held via a Zoom conference on Saturday.
All of Canada’s 14 Member Associations were represented at the Annual Meeting, which traditionally has been held in person but was forced to be held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minken, who was elected to the Board of Governors in 2019 and chaired the Enterprise Risk and Finance and Audit Committee, will head a 10-person Board that welcomed three new members after elections on Saturday: Kathy O’Rourke of Cumberland, P.E.I., Darren Oryniak of Winnipeg, Mike Szajewski of Kenora, Ont.
They replace outgoing board members John Shea (the 2019-20 Board Chair) of Ottawa, Sam Antila of Thompson, Man., and Angela Hodgson of Stratford, P.E.I.
“This was a unique meeting, but regardless of the circumstances, I was pleased to see that everyone shares the same vision — to continue growing our sport in Canada,” said Minken. “My sincere congratulations to our new Board Governors and my sincere thanks go to our outgoing Governors for their contributions and dedication to the sport of curling and Curling Canada.”
The 2020-21 Curling Canada Board is rounded out by Paul Addison of Victoria, George Cooke of Toronto, Cathy Dalziel of Eastern Passage, N.S., Donna Krotz of London, Ont., Chana Martineau of Edmonton, and Amy Nixon of Calgary

Return to Play

Curling Canada has announced more cancellations for the 2021 season because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Canadian U18 Championships, New Holland Canadian Junior Championships, Canadian Wheelchair Championships, the inaugural Canadian U15 Rockfest, and the U Sports/Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championships have been canceled and will not be rescheduled for later in the season.
Curling Canada has also canceled the Continental Cup, which is the event that has curlers from North America compete against the rest of the world.
Despite the cancellations by Curling Canada at the national level, CurlManitoba continues to plan safe and healthy 2021 Provincial Events in all categories. All events will continue with the standard qualifying process. Having said this, CurlManitoba understands there will continue to be COVID-19 related factors that could lead to the cancellation of any or all of our Provincial events. CurlManitoba will endeavor to keep athletes and fans updated as plans evolve.
CurlManitoba is working with our host clubs and our sports partners to ensure that our events can go ahead with athlete, coach, parent, and volunteer safety at the forefront.
National events scheduled for the fall of 2021 remain unchanged. These include the 2021 Canadian Mixed Championships, 2021 Canadian Club Championships, and the 2021 Canadian Senior Championships. CurlManitoba is looking to defer Senior Provincials until later in the season. Dates will be announced soon.
We look forward to all of our Curling Clubs opening their doors to curlers always adhering to the Provincial guidelines and safety precautions put in place by the Province of Manitoba.  https://curlmanitoba.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/CC-Manual_Return-to-Play_MB_EN-1.pdf
