Trainer and National Lifeguard Instructor & Examiner Recertification 2020

Dear Trainers and National Lifeguard Instructors/Examiners,
 
You are all probably wondering when and how recertifications for Trainers, Assistant Trainers, and National Lifeguard Instructors/Examiners will happen. Normally by now, I would be notifying everyone of dates for recertification clinics. However, this has been an eventful year to say the least!
 
We are extending all Trainer, Assistant Trainer, and National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner certifications and appointments to March 22, 2021. All Trainers, Assistant Trainers, and National Lifeguard Instructors/Examiners – regardless of your current certification date will need to recertify by March 22, 2021. Recertifications will be scheduled for late fall 2020 and winter 2021. With all of the challenges presented by COVID-19, the fact that there are Bronze Medals Awards revisions, and potentially CPR and first aid revisions we are looking at all options for how to deliver recertifications to you. Please be assured that we will deliver recertifications with everyone’s health and safety top of mind.
 
All Instructor Trainer and National Lifeguard Instructors/Examiners certifications and appointments are valid to midnight March 22, 2021.  If your certifications or appointments expire before March 22, 2021, you will be given an extension until March 22, 2021.
 
For Instructor Trainers, this notification permits you to continue to teach instructor courses and recertifications, and the corresponding technical programs until March 22, 2021.  If you have not attended a recertification by this date, you will not be able to continue teaching instructor courses and recertifications, and the corresponding technical programs until you have done so. If you choose to let your Instructor Trainer appointments lapse, you will need to attend the appropriate instructor recertification course to be able to continue teaching and examining technical levels (Swim for Life, CLSP, First Aid, National Lifeguard, etc.)
 
For National Lifeguard Instructors/Examiners, this notification permits you to continue to teach and examine national lifeguard and first aid/CPR courses and recertifications until March 22, 2021.  If you have not attended a recertification by this date, you will not be able to continue teaching or examining national lifeguard and first aid/CPR courses and recertifications until you have done so.
 
Dates, formats, locations and costs for recertifications will be posted on the web site as soon as they have been finalized. We will be contacting everyone once the dates for recertifications have been set. Registration and payment for recertifications will be done online through LifeguardShop.
 
Should you require confirmation of your certification/appointment extension for employment purposes, please email me and I will issue you a confirmation letter.  We will only issue confirmation letters upon request.
