1 Corinthians 16:14. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love

Thank you from Warisi

 To Our Donors

"Be the reason someone smiles, be the reason some feels loved and believes in the goodness in people." Roy T. Bennett. Hello my name is Wareisi Joseph. I am 18 years old. A young lady born and raised in a little village along the seashore called Seine Bight. I live with my father and brothers. My mother and sister passed away when I was a little child. I attended St. Alphonsus primary School. I graduated in the year 2014 . In that year I was also given a scholarship opportunity from the Belize Missions Society. With that I was able to attend and graduate from Independence High School as a honor student. That scholarship took a lot of load off my father's shoulders. I also had my older brother who was not on a scholarship. My father was the one who had to find all the money for him to be at school. My younger brother who was in primary school also.  Since I was an exceptional student on my scholarship, I was the only one who was given a scholarship to further my tertiary education.  I am presently enrolled at Ecumenical Junior College. Through the goodness of  the BMS and everyone who has supported me; another milestone of my educational road will soon be completed. I want to thank everyone for their never ending support. I am and will always be grateful for everything that has been done for me because without the help of everyone it would have been a whole lot different for me. What I am also thankful for is the love that is shown to my community. It always warms my heart to see everyone come and visit and do so much for my community. I am hoping that the help that is given to us here continues. As Germany Kent once said," where God guides, he provides. No matter how things look, God is still in control, stay in peace and be hopeful. Your blessing is coming soon." It is hard to find words to express my gratitude, but thanks a million.❤  Warisi

We Continue to Support

Food Bank

The Village Council in Seine Bight has resumed the Food Bank.  The BMS is continuing to  helped support the twice a month Food Bank.  Residents may apply through an online form or with a council member.  Chairman Jose has confirmed that 95% of the students in the feeding program are receiving supplies from the Food Bank.

We are so thankful for the help of Ms. Maretha for her assistance in getting funds to the Village Council and monitoring the need as the village moves forward.

Assisting the School

A new way of teaching for all children, even in Seine Bight.  Ms. Sue and Ms. Cathy were able to have a video conversation with Mr. Palacio, Standard 5 teacher, at St. Alphonsus RC School.  Teachers are preparing packets for the students.  Parents are going to the school on Monday's to pick up the paper packets and bring them home for the children to complete.  Parents then return the completed packets on the following Monday and pick up new packets for the week.  This as resulted in an increase in cost for the school with ink cartridges and paper.  Yet another obstacle for the teachers.

Supporting a student in the feeding program also includes paying for that students registration.  The BMS is working with Principal Ms. Moreira to get registrations fees paid for 64 students that are currently enrolled in the program.

Scholarships

Meet our 2020-2021 1st Form Students
The BMS and the administration at St. Alphonsus work together to find applicants for scholarships to Independence High School.  Each student must submit an application to the principal. The Children's Outreach Committee then interviews the students.  This year has been challenging.

Ms. Sue and Ms. Cathy were able to work with Mr. Palacio to conduct video call interviews with all four of the students.  It was so nice to see and talk with the students.

A Note from the Executive Director

Good Afternoon Friends of Belize Mission Society,

I continue to feel God’s hands around me as I navigate through the process of fulfilling my new role as the Executive Director.  He has placed so many wonderful Christian friends along my path to help guide me and challenge me.  I am grateful for each and every one of you for your encouragement and prayers.

This new world of pandemic has made it difficult for us to freely travel to Belize.  The International Airport in Belize is opening today, October 1, 2020.   Belize has a compliance plan for visitors while they are in country. The restrictions do not allow for visitors to freely travel within the country.  This plan will not work for short-term missionaries that serve in Belize.  The BMS has a tentative plan of sending a small research team at the end of February to investigate the resources available for the needs for teams.  I keep repeating to myself, “I’m a palm tree”.  It is our “hope” to be able to freely travel within Belize by the end of February.  “Hope” is what we need to cling to.

For more information on the protocol for travelers click HERE.

I will be reaching out to our team leaders to schedule a zoom meeting in the next month.  It is important to keep our communication open as we are trudging through this unknown territory.  The beauty of this is that the BMS is able to continue supporting our friends through the Food Bank, scholarships and daily devotions in the Seine Bight Connect Facebook Group.

May the peace of our Lord be with you all!

Your Sister in Christ,
Cathy
