THIS MONTH:

hellos & goodbyes.

CYS is thrilled to welcome Joshua Zambrano as our new Director of Community Engagement! Josh is a working actor and teaching artist, and an ensemble member of Visión Latino Theater Company and Counter Collective. He is also currently teaching acting to first-year students at his alma mater, ChiArts (the Chicago High School for the Arts). As an alum of the first CYS Ensemble and member of our board of directors, Josh is already a familiar face to many of us; and we couldn't be happier to welcome him to his newest role in the CYS family!
"I am incredibly thrilled (terrified?) to be taking over Evey's position as CYS Director of Community Engagement! Though big shoes have been left to fill, everyone has been incredibly generous with their support, and I look forward to engaging with all of you in this crazy matrix world we currently live in!"

Sincerely and emphatically,
Joshua Zambrano
Earlier this month, CYS students, alumni, staff, and board members gathered together to bid a socially-distanced, but heartfelt farewell to Evey Reidy, as she embarks on her post-graduate journey at The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon. We are all so proud of Evey and can't wait to hear all about her experiences across the pond!

"Yet hear me, countrymen; yet hear me speak."

 - Julius Caesar, [III.ii]

Let's face it, there is a lot going on right now in our communities, our country, and our world, and so much of it feels beyond our control. That's why it has never been more important for all of us to use the voices that we have, to speak and be heard, and to do our part during this unprecedented time in our country's history by exercising our right to vote on November 3rd, (or as soon as this Thursday: early voting in Illinois begins September 24th)!

Today, in honor of National Voter Registration Day, CYS invites you to help get out the vote by participating in:

#HearMeSpeak

Just post a photo of yourself at the ballot box or the mailbox using #HearMeSpeak, and share it for friends and family to see.

Let's send a message together that our voices do matter and our votes do count!

2 AWESOME new opportunities for high school students:

Not quite old enough to vote yet? You can still be part of the process and get paid!!!
High school students ages 16 and up can apply before September 25th.

CYS premiered The Romeo & Juliet Projecta one-hour, virtual reading and discussion of the play featuring 27 socially-distanced artists, (CYS youth actors and alumni alongside some seriously bad-ass professionals).  Watch now.

Read about the cast and contributing artists, and get in on a little shop talk with actor Peter Jacobson, in conversation with artistic director, Manon Spadaro.
