Georgia ARES Web Mapping Resources
You are invited to attend our September 2020 online training meeting about Georgia ARES Web Mapping Resources on Thursday, September 24, 2020 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM (EDT). Mapping and GIS expert Brian Haren, W8BYH, will be our presenter.
About our speaker
This month our guest speaker will be Brian Haren, W8BYH. Brian will give a presentation about the Georgia ARES Web Mapping Resources Page and some of the repeater mapping projects he's built.
Brian is the Geospatial Services Coordinator for Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta, and manages GIS application development, services delivery and data development for the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation.
Brian is also a retired Army warrant officer, serving for 23 in the Army Corps of Engineers as a topographic engineer, surveyor and geographic analyst in places like Germany, the Panama Canal Zone, Kuwait, Honduras, Ecuador, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Korea, Bosnia and across the United States.
Brian was first licensed in 1995 and has been heavily involved in Amateur Radio since moving to the Fayette County area in 2000. He is past president of the Fayette County Amateur Radio Club, KK4GQ, an assistant EC for Fayette ARES, a member of Army MARS.
In 2017, in conjunction with Georgia ARES, Brian launched the Georgia ARES Situational Awareness Map and the companion GA ARES Repeater Database Initiative, and in 2020 launched the Georgia ARES Web Mapping Resources Page. All are open resources designed for use by ARES members and emergency communicators across the State of Georgia.

2020 ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) Simulated Emergency Test (SET) on 10/3/2020
As has been the tradition, the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) Simulated Emergency Test (SET) will be conducted during the first weekend of October. The ARES Georgia Section leadership has prepared an exercise that will take place the morning of Saturday, October 3rd. Although not an AUXCOMM event, many of you reading this newsletter are also involved in ARES. We encourage you to participate in the exercise. Furthermore, some of the activities involved in the exercise can be used for AUXCOMM Position Task Book (PTB) sign-off.
For more information about the Georgia SET, please review the documentation here. If you have questions about the SET, please direct them to ARES leadership. More information will be forthcoming from AUXCOMM officials about PTB sign-off procedures.
