We can't wait to show our new and improved Partnership Place to you!

Thank you to Board Member Tony Garcia and The Hansen Company for leading the way with our new build out! The new Johnston Partnership space is amazing!

Thank you Polk County Iowa and Supervisor Robert Brownell for your support this year.
It means a lot to us and those we serve!

BOARD MEMBER HIGHLIGHT

Judy Anderson

Tell me a little about yourself.
Married to Tom Leffler, Children, Marty Anderson who lives in Portland, OR-grand kids Blair is a sophomore at DRAKE! and Cooper is 16. Polly Anderson in Denver, with granddaughter Lily,12 and step granddaughter, Luci,12. A Community Volunteer, involved in homeless endeavors-a founding member of Central Iowa Shelter & Services (formerly Churches United), Iowa’s largest homeless Shelter, and on their Board for 27 years. Founding member of Salvation Army Breakfast Program feeding folks early in the morning-24 years. Dream Catcher Board Member, established 2 housing units for folks with disabilities and those without disabilities to make it a real neighborhood. Currently working on another complex as co-developer next to Merle Hay Mall in Urbandale which will have 43 units. Peace & Justice advocate in our Community–member of STAR*PAC, Stop the Arms Race Political Action Committee. Johnston Lions Member which sponsors the Market, and the Farmers’ Market Manager for 23 years .

Why did you become involved in the Johnston Partnership, and what has your involvement looked like over time?
I became a member after the Citywide survey results of our Community’s needs became available. I was used to feeding & housing folks & doing outreach, so we began the Food Pantry at that time to help our neighbors in need. It’s been amazing to see not only the numbers of families increase, but the also the services the Partnership has been able to provide for our neighbors, kids in school etc.!  Such an addition to our Community and beyond. I’m more of a Community outreach member at this point, rather than being so hands on, as in the past.

What makes the Johnston Partnership mission meaningful to you?
I’ve always felt we’re called to take care of our neighbors and to use our skills to provide care and safety for those in need. Offering a chance for those who have to learn about those who don’t have and to encourage sharing of their bounty. We’re all in this Community together and need to be the best we can be.

Effective March 17th, the Johnston Partnership will be operating under new procedures to inhibit the spread of Covid-19.

As always, we ask that any staff or volunteers stay home if sick. Just like school, you need to be fever free and 24 hours removed from any symptoms before coming to the pantry.

We continue to clean as we always have, as we do have high traffic volume in our small space. All surfaces that are regularly touched - door handles, grocery carts, the bathroom, etc. will be cleaned at the end of the pantry day. We have hand sanitizer, hand soap and paper towels on hand, and encourage regular breaks for anyone who touches food to wash hands.

The Johnston Partnership will operate our Food Pantry with a paper order form. After placing an order, clients will be asked to wait in their vehicles or outside while it is being completed. Call/email ahead orders are also welcome, using the forms found on our website. Email orders to andrea@johnstonpartnership.org or call in at 515-528-2379 or 515-868-1357. Staff & volunteers will be the only ones allowed inside the pantry. Staff will be the only ones with any client contact, as food pantry volunteers will be pulling orders, stocking and organizing as always. Anytime items will be pre-bagged and distributed according to family size.

The Johnston Partnership Clothing Room is reopened! As we continue to keep the safety of our staff, clients, and volunteers as our top priority, there will be a few things to keep in mind.

  • We can only accept clothing items - all sizes children-adult - but no bedding, housewares or baby accessories.
  • Donations must be recently laundered, and they will go into " quarantine" for 72 hours before being accessible to clients.
  • Clients can continue to access the clothing room through the order form (Clothing Order Form) listed below.  These forms can be emailed, just like the food pantry forms, to andrea@johnstonpartnership.org

Our newly-formed Benevolence Fund will still be accessible. This is open to those who live within the Johnston School District boundaries, and it does require a short application/interview process. We are able to assist with financial needs such as rental assistance, utility assistance or other emergency financial needs.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. It is critical that we find a way to stay open, as the needs around food insecurity will only increase when people are home for long periods of time. We will be open during our regular hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays 9am-1pm.

If you would like to help, we will still need volunteers! Sign up (or walk-in) at www.johnstonpartnership.org. Monetary donations go a lot further to help us fill ever changing needs. Click the DONATE button on our website!

We are still accepting food donations, personal care donations and monetary donations. Please click here to make a monetary donation. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
