In this GLOBE News Story, GLOBE Partner John Moore describes his path from childhood to teacher to Partner and his creation of the GLOBE Satellites in Education Team. 

"Satellites and Education, as we say in New Jersey, “perfect together”...Why then is it not in our schools as part of our mainstream curriculum? Thus, the creation of the GLOBE Satellites in Education Team. It’s time to get serious. This group that responded to my invitation emails within 48 hours consists of stellar individuals, most whom you know. This ground can make a profound impact on STEM Education, create career pathways, expose the excitement to young people, most who have never been exposed to this type of opportunity, thus creating enhanced diversity within the Geosciences and these critical future endeavors that will impact society, our nation, and our planet. Simply put, the overarching theme (which was generated with my students to describe our Career tech Program, is “To Observe the Earth and Visualize the Future”.  Great things are about to happen.   • U.S. GLOBE Weekly Watercoolers. Join the U.S. GLOBE community every Thursday at 4:10p ET to connect and share resources. Includes presentations from GLOBE Partners and/or Teachers! Register to join all Watercoolers here. 
    • October 15th - Amy Barfield, GIO, will give a general overview of what is new this year for the IVSS and share some important dates.
    • October 29th - Hear from the MyTree USDA Forest Service team on this neat tool that estimates the benefits your trees provide!
  • SUNY Fredonia NY 08/24/2020 - 11/162020. This workshop will focus on Atmosphere, Hydrology and Pedosphere protocols. This workshop is limited to preservice teachers. Contact: Michael Jabot

Partner Forum Update: Publication Resource

The Publications web page is a newly formatted resource found on the GLOBE website. GLOBE has a long history of sharing impact and scientific research data regarding all things GLOBE. 

You can search the publications database to find:

  • peer-reviewed research articles supporting the use of GLOBE
  • scientific findings based on the use of student-generated GLOBE data
  • background information for a research study you are conducting
  • rationale arguments for a grant application
  • and more!

For example, valuable research articles such as these are available through this resource: Slow and Steady Progress towards an Inclusive Student Research Symposium (Butler, D., Bourgeault, J., Wicklein, H.), Environmental-Based Experiential Learning Activities and Its Influence on Students’ Knowledge, Critical Thinking, Attitude Towards the Environment, and Career Aspirations ( Lewis, V.), A Study of Daily Average Air Temperature Data From GLOBE Schools (Jasmyn Dyer, J., Lin, P., Cintron, E.) and a Making Science Come Alive With Clouds (Colón Robles, M., Bouwman, J.).  You can also suggest publications that are worthy and supportive of the GLOBE mission. 

GLOBE Mentor Trainer


GLOBE TrainingThe GLOBE Trainer/Mentor Trainer process has been updated and is now complete. This process is meant to

  • Emphasize the Trainer* Certification procedure
    • Refine the process to be more streamlined, flexible, transparent, and accessible
    • Guarantee the quality of Trainers throughout the GLOBE community
  • Set up the Mentor Trainer Certification procedure
    • Define Mentor Trainers as a resource to aid and advance the community of GLOBE trainers
    • Create a system for Mentor Trainers to communicate with each other to ensure the quality of mentorship throughout the GLOBE community
In both the Trainer and Mentor Trainer certifications, there are three steps and separate forms
  • Step 1: Application and Qualification Review – for those who are not currently trainers or mentor trainers
  • Step 2: Observation and Review by Mentor Trainer – once approved as a Candidate Trainer or Candidate Mentor Trainer, for those who are not currently trainers or mentor trainers
  • Step 3: Maintaining Active Status – for those who are currently active as Trainers or Mentor Trainers

*Please note, the term “Master Trainer” has been combined with the category of “Trainer” and is no longer a GLOBE term. “Master Trainer” is NOT synonymous with “Mentor Trainer” and GLOBE Trainers are not necessarily expected to apply to become Mentor Trainers unless they want to contribute in mentoring Candidate Trainers. The added responsibilities required of Mentor Trainers are explained in both the Certification Process and the Application forms.
