Meetings, updates and reminders

September 2020

Saturday morning coffee resumed

Highgate Society is delighted to announce the resumption of the Saturday coffee mornings. Come and join us between 1030 and 1230 for a social distancing catch-up inside the hall at 10A South Grove (where we will have seating for up to 12 people) or outside – bring a chair.

The society’s coffee mornings are open to all – for members who want to meet for a chat and for non-members who want to learn about the Society’s activities.

A detailed cleaning and hygiene protocol has been put in place to make the coffee mornings possible. The hall will be laid out with tables set at two meter distance so that visitors can sit together, but you will be asked to observe social distancing guidelines and sit in groups of no more than six people. There will also be capacity in the front garden. If the hall has 12 people inside, in line with government regulations, you may be asked to sit outside.

Highgate Society online programme of meetings

While  social distancing rules make live meetings impractical, the Society is continuing its online programme of talks and other events with 'attendance' using the Zoom app. When each meeting is announced, a link to the Eventbrite booking site will be published via a mailshot or on the Society's web site. Anyone registering will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting on or before the day of the event to be used at the advertised time.

It is not necessary to have Zoom pre-loaded on your device. Clicking on the link will download it automatically. However joining a meeting will be quicker if Zoom is pre-loaded. Download it from zoom.us or the App Store (Apple devices) or Play Store (Android devices).

Meetings start at 7.00 pm (unless otherwise stated). Please join a few minutes before so that the meeting can start on time and is not interrupted by late joiners.

During the booking process in Eventbrite you will be invited to make a donation to the Highgate Society. Closure of the hall has resulted in the Society losing a large proportion of its income and a small contribution will help to keep its activities going.

Planning surgery continues online. While our Planning Committee has continued its work as normal, albeit mainly on-line, the familiar Saturday morning Planning Surgeries have, like everything else, had to stop. Given the tight limits on numbers allowed to use 10A when it re-opens, we cannot guarantee that people coming up to talk about planning issues will be able to enter; and we rather suspect that most people will not yet be ready for face-to-face meetings.

Our planning team is nevertheless happy to offer what help it can. Therefore, until further notice, if you have any queries, please submit them through the Society's website and someone will contact you, either to answer the question by e-mail or telephone, or, if several people wish to talk or there is a complex issue to discuss, by a Zoom meeting which can be arranged in advance
