2020-2021 HSI Pathways Webinars

In our effort to offer continued support to HSI Pathways Fellows, the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions will be hosting a series of webinars crafted for all HSI Pathways Fellows.  These webinars will offer best practices for navigating the academy and persisting through graduate school.
Developing a Strong Relationship with your Advisor
September. 30, 2020, at 1:30pm

This session will focus on how to navigate your relationship with your advisor and how to set expectations. The session will also include a Q&A session.

October 22, 2020, at 12:30 pm

This session will discuss the importance of self-advocacy and how it can lead to a smoother transition and an overall better experience in graduate school. It will be followed by a Q&A session.

Developing a Research Agenda in Graduate School
February 4, 2021, at 1:00 pm

Too often, graduate students believe that they need to commit to exactly what they wrote in their application and in some cases, become overwhelmed at how their initial ideas have expanded and can become numerous research projects. The session will discuss coping methods and tools for establishing a research agenda. The panelists, faculty members and HSI Pathways Fellows, will share how their ideas have evolved throughout graduate school and what they’ve done to develop their own research agenda.

Navigating the Faculty Job Market 
March 4, 2021, at 1:00 pm

This session will share advice on how to manage the job search, how to prepare the necessary application materials, and how to determine if an institution is a “good fit.” Speakers will reflect on their own experiences and offer strategies for navigating the process.
