Recent & Upcoming HIP Webinars

The HIPs Partnership is pleased to share the recordings for three recent webinars, including two recently conducted in French. Thank you to all of the partners who shared their time and expertise to produce these webinars!

Community Group Engagement: Changing Norms to Improve Sexual and Reproductive Health  / Groupe d’engagement communautaire : Changer les normes en vue d’une amélioration de la santé sexuelle et reproductive (French, June 2020 – recording/slides)

Post-abortion Family Planning: A critical component of postabortion care / Planification familiale après avortement : Une composante essentielle des soins après avortement (French, October 2020 – recording/slides)

These webinars were designed by the IBP Network and the Ouagadougou Partnership in response to a growing need to learn more about High Impact Practices (HIPs) through interventions that can optimize investments in family planning.

Moderators from Pathfinder and the MOH Togo introduced the Community Group Engagement webinar featuring presenters from Breakthrough Action, Ministry of Health Benin, Institute of Reproductive Health/Mali, and Handarey Mali. Presenters outlined the CGE strategic planning guide and the implementation of Tékponon Kiuagou in Bénin and Mali, and the Handarey approach in Mali.

Moderated by representatives from the Ouagadougou Partnership and Pathfinder International/Evidence to Action, the Postabortion Family Planning webinar included an overview of the brief, the global context presented by WHO/Africa Regional Bureau, and country examples from Côte d’Ivoire presented by the Directorate of the National Mother and Child Program (Direction de Coordination du Programme National de Santé de la Mère et de l’Enfant), and IntraHealth International/Sénégal, the latter program specifically adjusted to include elements of care for adolescents and youth.

Task Sharing Family Planning Services to Increase Health Workforce Efficiency and Expand Access (August 2020 – recording/slides) Presenters by representatives from Abt Associates and FHI 360 provided an overview of task sharing and the task sharing strategic planning guide. PSI presented the application of the guide to inform its approach to mobile outreach in rural Niger. IntraHealth highlighted three task sharing approaches used in South Sudan which resulted in improved access to both an increased number of clients served, especially youth, as well as an expansion in the mix of voluntary family planning methods offered.

UPCOMING: Stay tuned for upcoming webinars on Supply Chain Management (English) and Domestic Public Financing/Financement public national (French). Sign up here to be notified when dates are announced!

Three new HIPs briefs will replace the current briefs which focus on channels (Mass Media, Community Group Engagement, Digital Health for SBC) in favor of an ecological approach that focuses on factors that incorporate multiple channels - individual beliefs, joint-decision-making, and norms.

The SBC - Individual expert group will work on an individual’s belief that the benefits outweigh the consequences of family planning (pros and cons) in relation to one’s goals and aspirations and attitudes on safety and effectiveness.

The SBC - Interpersonal expert group will work on joint-decision making - open communication among partners and friends about family planning, including negotiation among partners.

The SBC - Community expert group will work on norms – an individual's belief that family, religious leaders, and community leaders approve of family planning.

The virtual kick-off workshop for the Social and Behavior Change writing group will be on October 27th and will be facilitated by colleagues from Knowledge SUCCESS.
