We wish all our Year 6 the very best on Saturday when they sit their first 11+ test. All the children have worked hard and I have no doubt that they will do their very best on Saturday. I am sure many will be relieved that the exams have finally arrived! All our Year 6 families will be very much in our thoughts on Saturday. I know it is a stressful day for parents.
Open House London is an annual festival celebrating the architecture and urban landscape of London. It begins this weekend and and of course will be different this year. There will be short films taking you through the keyhole of special buildings all over the city and maybe of interest to you. https://openhouselondon.open-city.org.uk/
We have all enjoyed a few unexpected days of late Summer sunshine this week. It is wonderful to watch the children enjoying being together again outside, playing together and enjoying their sport again. Let's hope the sun will continue to shine throughout the week and into next weekend.

The first Inter-House competition will take place next Wednesday. 23rd September at 1pm. With a lack of inter-school sporting fixtures at this moment in time, this will give our children their first taste of competitive action this term.
Unfortunately due to current restrictions we will not be able to invite parents to watch this event.
All junior children will be taking part and so should make sure they have suitable footwear for running and may wear either their PE kit or Games kit, depending on the weather. Blue fleece jackets should also be brought to school. Children should arrive in school uniform and will change at the appropriate time during the afternoon.
The team of Sports Captains were announced this week. The following children will be helping the PE Department to organise and develop the sporting experiences at Grantham Prep. over the year. Unlike previous years the team have a generic role this year with all six captains being involved in all sport taking place. Congratulations to Phoebe, Isobel, Felicity, Harry, Stanley and Jack.
Its been lovely to hear the Y5 & Y6 choir singing again during their "socially distanced and forward facing" choir practice. Dr Williams, choir master from St Wulfram's takes the choir on a Tuesday morning, along with Miss Linehan.

Our topic this term, that we are giving some particular attention to, is 'Fantastic Fiction'. During the first 2 weeks we created a display based around the story of The 3 little pigs. The children helped make a house of straw and made their own piggy faces. We hope you like our lovely display!
The children have also listened to various versions of the stories, coloured in a house of sticks and had a go at making a house for a pig out of lego bricks. We thought they would be strong enough so no wolf could blow them down!
In Reception the children have had a lovely week in the sunshine with lots of fun creative learning outside. They have all settled in so well. They have had many challenges set which were linked to their work on The Three Little Pigs which the children have been reading. They have loved retelling this traditional tale. In their DT lessons they have been making some straw and stick houses and then painting them for their own special little pig. They have also been working as a team making their own cute pig faces for a display in the classroom. I am sure you will agree that they have a certain 'pig-like' charm!

This week has been another fun but busy week in Year One. In Numeracy, the children have been practising their number bonds to ten, looking at (and creating) symmetrical pictures and learning how to organise their written Maths work neatly within their exercise books. Everyone has chosen their favourite character, painted a lovely portrait of them and written a detailed description about their art work as part of our Literacy topic - Fairytales. Between all of this hard work, the children have briefly taken time out to design some wonderful magnetic models and to create some colourful umbrella prototypes. Class One, you are amazing...keep up the good work!

Class One and Two enjoyed the pleasure of their regular Singing Assembly on Wednesday morning with Miss Kerby. I think you will all agree that music really helps to wake us up and starts the day off in a really positive manner. All the children took part and had so much fun singing songs such as 'Wake Up' and a funny song about a penguin!

Jeans for Genes Day
With Jeans for Genes Day, Class Two have discovered the jeans that they will be decorating for their display! As you can see from the photograph, you could probably fit a child in each leg!
We were all moved to learn about those who are born different but are equally as amazing and great! The children of Class Two really engaged with discussing about how to make people comfortable and included.
In class 3 we have started our History topic all about the Ancient Egyptians. It is an amazing and vast topic to study but this year we have had a little help. Thanks to George's uncle, who was visiting Egypt,we have had our very own roving reporter sending us some fantastic photographs and stunning live videos. It has certainly really brought the topic to life and captured the children's imagination. A huge thank you to him for taking the time to send the images. Maybe he can arrange to be in Greece at the start of the Spring term to help with our topic on Ancient Greece!
This week class 5 have looked at some of the key events that happened during the First World War. They discovered how Europe was a different place back in 1914 and how the need for power led to one of the worst events in the world! The children impressed me with their perceptiveness and empathy. In all a good start to the topic and I hope you like their work.
We have had another busy, successful week in class 6.
We held an election last week to appoint a Chair Person, Vice Chair and Secretary for the School Council. Dexter, Isobel and Holly were successfully awarded their badges in Monday's zoom assembly. They held the first meeting on Wednesday and are planning meetings with year group reps via zoom.
In History, we are working on World War 2 and this week considered what it would have been like to be evacuated to the countryside. We thought about the positives, as well as the negatives, of travelling for a long time to a new place; what they would have taken with them and wrote a letter home, about our experiences.
In STEAM we had an a-maze-ing time designing our own mazes and had a look at previous maze designs at Wistow Park in Leicestershire. A great place to visit, in normal circumstances, weather allowing!
I am very happy to announce that from September, Offstage Drama will be resuming their Saturday drama workshops.
There will be two sessions:
9.30 am - 10.30 am - Children aged 4-11
10.30 am - 11.30 am - Secondary aged children
We will ensure that children are spaced out, the hall is well-ventilated and that good hand hygiene is adhered to. We already have contact details for all of the families, so that if there were any concerns, this could be shared quickly. This is subject, of course, to any further updates from the Government nearer the time.
I would like to offer any current children in Year 6, whether or not they already attend the sessions, the chance to join the 10.30am workshop.
