Project Spotlight: MedCreds Update

During the last few months, MedCreds has had its product in initial public use, as well as being active with promoting the development of the CCI Governance Framework and California bill AB 2004. Its efforts are focused on raising public awareness of the value and benefits of verifiable credentials for medical test results and health status, particularly as related to COVID-19. Based on this work, along with continuous improvement of the MedCreds mobile platform, the company is excited to expand the availability of MedCreds across North America during Q4 2020.

The foundational MedCreds product is focused on the issuance of COVID-19 test results credentials, which requires a medical professional to issue such credentials. Recently, MedCreds has created other important credential types to support best practices for reducing COVID-19 infections. It now enables individuals to also hold body temperature and wellness check questionnaire credentials, which may be self-issued or issued by a third-party. For example, a third-party could be a doctor's office receptionist that may be screening patients prior to allowing them into a doctor’s office waiting lobby. All of these credentials will have the ability to be verified remotely or face-to-face by any person using the MedCreds application. Furthermore, people will be permitted to self-onboard with MedCreds and freely use this basic functionality. Stay tuned to this news feed for information on when this will be generally available to the public in your region!

CCI Workstream Updates

Use Case Implementation

We had our 16th meeting on September 15, 2020. Two use case implementations were demonstrated to the group.

Omer Shafiq presented Vaccifya COVID-19 Initiative by TrustNet Pakistan focusing on vaccination certification. The demo featured a web interface for the issuer and verifier and a mobile wallet app for the holder. The application provides a well-thought-out and streamlined user experience.

Nick Morris (ObyNote) presented Covid19Pass. The system enables the SSI-compliant storage and sharing of COVID-19 status without requiring a privacy-risky central database. No personally identifiable information or COVID-19 status results are stored outside of the user’s direct control and the user determines which attributes of their ID and status results are communicated to a third party.

For more information about the demos, please visit our meeting page. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 16:00-17:00 CEST, with two demonstrations confirmed.

Rules & Governance

The CCI GF Task Force has been reviewing the current set of work in order to revise and make better projections for the availability of the final version of the document. The homepage now has the updated milestones. In addition to making available a pre-release version of the document for input and feedback, the group has also initiated conversations around how to bootstrap governance authorities to adopt and deploy into production the aspects of the framework.

The CCI GF Task Force hopes to make the v2 of the Governance Framework publicly available on and after Oct. 5, 2020. To begin with, it will be available only in English, and we will be adding further languages based on contributions from a volunteer community of translators.

Coordination & Communications

We are making steady progress at various fronts: newsletters, Twitter and the CCI Knowledge Base. Ideas about how to better build CCI's thought leadership by producing original content regularly through blog posts are being discussed in our small team. If you are interested in writing for CCI, please email Lucy Yang for more information.

Beyond routine activities, we are working to push forward our conversation with Linux Foundation Public Health while supporting the Use Case Implementation Workstream to identify and confirm more projects to demo at CCI.
