MMI Evaluator Training Now Available Online

September 17, 2020

Dear FCM Faculty,

The recording of the MMI Evaluator Training is now available to take online. If you are interested in being an MMI Evaluator, please follow these steps:
  1. Email Megan Sorenson in the COM Admissions office.
  2. Megan will send you the MMI Evaluator Training Manual, the link to MMI Evaluator Training Recording, the MMI schedule and your specific portal login information.
  3. View the MMI Evaluator Training Recording.
  4. Once you receive your portal login info from Megan, you can login to the portal and input your availability for interviews.
  5. Megan will email you the Monday prior to your interview.
Each interview/evaluation will take about 1.5 hours, and take place on Fridays from 12-1pm. You will check-in at 11:30am, conduct the interview and then complete and submit your evaluation through the portal by 2pm that day. Please email Megan if you have any questions.

Having our faculty participate in medical school admissions is so important to ensuring that FCM's values of primary care, health equity, social responsibility, and diversity and inclusion are well represented in our future colleagues. Myra and I are hoping this will be a record-setting year for FCM faculty participating in MMI.

Thank you for your consideration,

Tejal M. Parikh, MD
Assistant Dean, COM-Tucson Office of Admissions
Associate Professor, Family and Community Medicine

Previous MMI Evaluators: Drs. Carol Galper, Karen Lutrick, Karyn Kolman and Myra Muramoto

"I think as a member of an academic department of family medicine in a state with a primary care shortage, it is imperative that we have a role in helping select the members of the next medical school class. Participating in MMIs is a fun and easy way to do this."  ~Karyn Kolman, MD, associate professor; vice chair of education

"I choose to be a secondary screener and participate in MMIs because I am dedicated to changing the face of our physician workforce to more accurately reflect the racial and ethnic makeup of our nation. My participation is driven by a desire to address inequities in education and medicine, and has given me insights into how to do this for our residency program in a more systematic way."

~Jessie Pettit, MD, IBCLC, associate professor; Alvernon residency program director

"Participating in the MMI has been a refreshing change from the old 30-minute interview experience. I love getting to see the diverse and talented candidates coming to interview at COM-T and playing a part in shaping the future classes of COM-T."

~Mari Ricker, MD, associate professor
