RI DEMOCRATIC WOMEN'S CAUCUS IS MAKING WAVES FOR FALL 2020

[SEPTEMBER 17, 2020, PROVIDENCE, RI] - Last week progressive Democrats saw historic wins across the state in the primary election. Now for the first time in Rhode Island history, our Senate could have more women than men in its chamber. Only one other state, Nevada, has that distinction. We hope to help usher our endorsed candidates into office in the general election with contributions to our 2020 Fall Fundraiser, “Making Waves,” so that our state can share a similar accomplishment.

Though we're already hard at work for the general election, we also want to celebrate the success of our endorsed candidates and supported allies in their primary races. Of the candidates the Caucus supported who had primary races, an astounding 81% of them were victorious.

While we honor the role the Caucus played in these wins, we would like to emphasize that it was the grassroots organizing and dedication of our incredible candidates and their campaigns that deserve the most credit. The Women’s Caucus provided a space for truly Democratic women in this state to strategize, mobilize, and network; our members and our candidates made this movement.

For the general election and beyond, the Caucus looks forward to holding accountable our elected officials who ran on platforms of transparency and integrity. The voters of Rhode Island have made it clear that we want leadership in both legislative chambers who possess these traits. We will continue to support Democratic women and allies who are committed to restoring faith in the democratic process by demanding leadership equipped to provide it.

To that end, we are holding our most ambitious fundraiser to date. In order to further our success in the 2020 election cycle, we launched "Making Waves 2020," a fall fundraiser that is a “matching donations” contest between a team of four generous State Representatives and a team of four generous State Senators. Both legislative teams have pledged up to $1,000 in matching contributions. They’re ready to contribute to the Women’s Caucus, but we need more like-minded Democrats to come together to support our movement and match their generosity.

State Senators Gayle L. Goldin, Dawn Euer, Josh Miller, and Ryan Pearson are on the Senate team. State Representatives Edith H. Ajello, Liana Cassar, Robert Craven, and Gregg Amore are on the Representative team. Contributions can be made at each teams’ fundraising pages: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/making-waves-senators & https://secure.actblue.com/donate/making-waves-reps.

These much needed funds will be spent on our endorsed candidates’ general election campaigns and will fund future initiatives as we look towards the 2022 election cycle.

Again, the Caucus extends its gratitude to the people who put their faith in us. They recognize and respect that our members are the backbone of the Democratic party. It has been less than a year since we established ourselves, but we’ve already accomplished so much--and we’re not done yet.

The Rhode Island Democratic Women's Caucus seeks to impact government and political processes in order to ensure equality in power, influence, and economic status for those who identify as and with women. We will do this by (a) recruiting and supporting candidates in all levels of government and (b) advocating for Democratic principles consistent with the Democratic Party platform.
