From the Principal

Dear Parkview Families,

We found such joy in having students back at Parkview in the building and in our Digital Academy classrooms!

As Principal, I have such pride in our school and feel so lucky to work with such a great community. The amount of care that is poured into the work of this school truly comes from the heart of each and every employee, and our hope is that our children can feel that every day when they walk in the door, or log onto their class.
It has taken our entire school community of kitchen, custodial, clerical and teacher staff to get all of our services and programming up and running. And, the partnerships and dedication from families is evident in the success we have felt these first days of school. Thank you for all of the ways you have supported us in getting started this year!

Please see below for some additional new staff that I would like to introduce. And, there is a lot of important information later in this newsletter about meals at school. We know there have been some technology kinks and we continue to work through those.  We appreciate your patience as we get our daily routines in place for students.

Parkview is an amazing school and we look forward to a great year!

Sincerely,
Nicole Garcia, Principal

New Staff

Nurse Alecia Hooper

My name is Nurse Alecia and I am so excited to be joining the team at Parkview! This will be my seventh year as a nurse and my second within a school. I grew up in southern Minnesota, graduated from Gustavus in 2014, and currently live in Eagan with my husband, our one-year-old son, and our dog. Outside of work, we love traveling, watching baseball and hockey, grilling on our patio, and spending time with our families.

Ms. Radle, Occupational Therapist

Hi!  My name is Ms. Radle and I will be teaching DAPE at Parkview this year.  I’m so excited to join the team and meet lots of new students and their families!

Ms. Klaus, Special Education Resource Teacher

I am from a small town in Woodstock, IL but found my way to Minnesota by attending college here.  I graduated from Winona State University in May 2019 and was a resource teacher at Richfield Middle School this past school year. I love finding outdoor activities to do, especially in the warm weather, and value spending time with my friends and family. I am beyond excited to be part of the Parkview team!

Food Service

USDA Extends Free Meals For Parkview Students

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced a short-term extension to its free meals program and will provide school meals at no cost to all Parkview students.

The program will last until funding runs out.  We will announce when the program ends.  Until then, all Parkview students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every school day, whether in school or distance learning at home.  Accurate food orders will need to be taken to account for each free meal served to students.
  • To order meals for your child to bring home for distance learning days, complete the District 196 take-home meal kit survey by clicking HERE
  • If your child is enrolled in the 196 Digital Academy and you would like to receive a five-day meal kit each week, complete the 196 Digital Academy five-day meal kit survey by clicking HERE
We strongly encourage families who may qualify for free or reduced price meals to still complete their annual application for meal benefits to avoid being charged for meals once this additional funding runs out.  To complete the application please visit the District 196 Food and Nutrition Services website by clicking HERE.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and lunches will be pre-packaged and delivered to each classroom. Students will eat with their classmates either in their classroom, outside, or in the cafeteria with their pod. We will not have all students from a grade level eating in the cafeteria at one time, rather it may be limited to occasional opportunities for smaller groups to support social distancing.

Meals will be available for 196 Digital Academy students and for Hybrid students to purchase during their at home learning days. More information will be provided about this process when it is available. For general information about our Food & Nutrition Department, please check their website.

PTO

PTO Meeting Report

We've successfully completed our first socially distanced, outdoor, PTO meeting! We kicked off the year by purchasing new staff t-shirts. It was nice to see such a unified look on that first day of school. While we will be downsizing our fundraising goals this year, we're eager to be involved in the life of Parkview in new ways. Join us!

Transportation

Parent Drop off and Pick up

Due to safety concerns we do not want students getting out of their car if they are in the middle lane. Please drop off curbside only.

If you are dropping off or picking up please make sure you pull all the way to the flag pole so we can accommodate all parents. In the morning it is also helpful your child is ready to exit the car when you pull up along the curb. Please do not wait until you are directly in front of the school. Once you stop, your child is expected to unbuckle, exit the vehicle, and walk to the grade level assigned entrance area. If you are running late please pull up to the front and call the office for support.

If you need to get out of your vehicle you should pull into one of the parking spots and walk you child across the cross walk to the curb. DO NOT send your child walking through the parking lot alone. Thank you for helping make these busy times of the day run smoothly.

Health & Safety

When should I keep my child home this year?

Our goal is to keep students in school for as long as we can safely do so. This means we need your help to ensure your child is healthy enough to come to school each day. Please keep your child home if:
  • They have any of the following symptoms: fever over 100.4, new or worsening cough, difficulty breathing (wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath), loss of taste or smell
  • They have two or more of the following symptoms: sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, muscle pain, excessive fatigue, new headache, new nasal congestion or runny nose
  • You have been told your child is a close contact of someone diagnosed with COVID
  • Anyone in your house is being tested for COVID due to symptoms
