MAJOR PLAYERS IN THE DOMAIN NAME INDUSTRY

DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM
The Domain Name System (DNS) provides basic information for navigating the Internet. Every computer on the Internet has a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses are a string of numbers that are not easy to remember so the DNS makes it easier to use the Internet by allowing a familiar string of letters ("domain name") to be used instead of IP addresses. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a non-profit organization that manages the Domain Name System worldwide.
In the 3R model of registry business, when you register a domain name, there are three key players in the Domain Name System Ecosystem, namely the Registry, Registrar and Registrant. Of course for some registrars, there are domain resellers in the business chain but it is always the registrar’s platform that connects to the registry platform/system.

A Message from The President
PRESIDENT’S SPEECH
These are challenging times for many businesses. The changes were necessitated not only by the world’s responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but also because of the perception that the world may go into a recession because of the economic effects of the Pandemic. It is more important now than ever, that these businesses can continue to conduct their businesses as profitably as possible. This can be achieved by having a robust online presence. It is with great excitement that I therefore announce that the .ng promo, NiRA’s contribution to the successful metamorphosis of business, went live on the 24th of August 2020. The response has been inspiring and I am grateful to the NiRA Executive Board for their foresight in driving such an intervention as well as the team at the NiRA Secretariat for exceptional delivery and the NiRA Accredited Registrars for their active participation. If you are yet to take advantage of the promo, hurry now to www.register.ng for access to the participating NiRA Accredited Registrars. We are grateful to our registrars for also driving this in their campaigns. The .ng promo ends on the 20th of November 2020.
